How are arbitration amounts budgeted?
Do arbitrated contract amounts come out of my current years "Extensions" budget? I see that I have several key players who will be up for arbitration at the end of this season. My Extension budget is running low and I do not have enough to meet the arbitration estimates of these players. If I agree to arbitration on all of them, will their salaries come out of my current year "Extensions" budget? Does it come out of "Free Agents" budget or some other system? I don't want to lose some of these guys so I need to know if I should try to open up some budget room some other way? Thanks.

The estimated arb amounts should already be included in your next year's estimated payroll, so if a player gets more/less than estimated that amount should come out or be added to your free agent budget (I think. It maybe your extensions budget since it's the following year).

Okay, that makes sense. The estimates DO roll into the totals for next years expected payroll, therefore the arb amounts are already accounted for. I'm going to assume that any overage will probably go against the extensions budget because it should increase the "Expected Payroll" thereby decreasing the available funds.
Thanks for setting me straight on this. |
