I'm not actually going to use this logo but yes that is exactly what I was trying to do.

Thanks for the process...makes sense.

Also I did check them in-game to see what they look like and the first one (the simplest) looked best.

Also, if you don't mind I think my process for text is probably not ideal. Currently I am opening Powerpoint using word-art copying then pasting into Photoshop. Then using magic wand to select then pasting on a new layer.

Does that sound about right or no?

I know they look like crap. I didn't write down the color code for the blue that I used on the undershirt so the hat doesn't match but It's my first completed jersey.

Critique?

The T on the left hand side of photoshop will allow you to write text onto a layer. You will have all the fonts that are loaded onto your computer available to you with the type tool.

I feel your pain, man... I got very frustrated when I first started doing the logos, jerseys and caps... I just didn't understand the order, blend modes and the opacity with the different layers... I just kept working at it and read a couple of the tutorials, one was from gern44, and one day it finally all made sense...
I still learn new things about making the logos and jerseys from watching what these other guys put together here in the forums... Their are some real talented folks here, especially the ones who put the templates together... Keep on truckin , you'll get the hang of it...

Thanks for the kind words...you guys are an inspiration to me. I really wanted to learn how to this a long time ago but it wasn't until some of the sets that have recently been produced that I really got the kick I needed.

Here's the jersey #2:

(lol, I consider this a learning jersey--not one I'd use)

The ability to use Layers in Photoshop can't be understated. It's amazing what you can do with them. Two great elements of Photoshop are the ability to change Layer Styles and the ability to change the Opacity of Layers.

In your Photoshop, on the Layers tab, you have a drop down that says "normal". Select the drop down and you'll see a list of other options... darken, multiply, overlay, soft light, hard light, etc.

I suggest taking the Rebels logo with the white background and putting that layer on top of a colored background.. something kind of reddish. Then select the Rebels layer, and play around with how all the different Layer Styles look. Multiply, Overlay and Soft Light are 3 of my favorites to use. They all give different looks depending on the image and the background layer.

Then take the same logo and background and play around with Opacity. Try 75%, 50% and 33% opacities to see how they all look.

I just posted my Photoshop Ballcap Template. It's simple and should be a good example of how I do things. Keep in mind that I use "Photoshop Elements 2.0", which is very old and doesnt have all the capabilites of full Photoshop (I can't make folders and there's innate masking features).

Gern,

I read your tutorial before I started and it went over my head. After playing around for a few hours I understood what you were saying much more clearly when I reread it.

I have a couple of questions that I'll post when I have time that maybe you can point me in the right direction.

Lastly though thanks for suggestions and efforts to educate us non-jeanyuses.

Disregard the color choices. They are irrelevant right now:

Can you help me understand why the bottom 4 layers have that great square thing that lets me double-click it to color the whole layer (no bleed from fill bucket)

My problem though is when I try to color a layer that does not have that square thing. There's nothing to double click. I am forced to use fill bucket. Also that stinking green line in the middle takes like 3 hours at 500x zoom one piexel at a time to color and it still comes out like crap.

How do I paint that layer (side panels) without using fill bucket or a brush?

See...I have to zoom in and paint bucket that stinking line. Looks like crap.

The 'square' thing is a masking layer. Im not sure what teminology your Photoshop uses for it. Im not sure it you "Insert, Layer, Mask" or whatever.

The problem you are having with the line on the panel is that your using a Panel Layer that was merged with a layer that contained just an 'outline' for the panel. Normally, you'd have two layers, one for the panel and one for those two lines (which are what I would call an outline for the panel).

If you want want the 'lines', I would use the magic wand tool to try and delete them from your Layer.

On a different note, I always remote the checkbox from "auto select layer". I hate it when Im working on a layer 'underneath' another layer and the damn application keeps selecting the top layer when I click.

Thank you for the tips I will definitely be removing that auto-select. Now I know that was happening.

And I'll try to magic wand that line away. I'd imagine that If I wanted a line I could just find one on the internet and add myself. Great suggestion.

Thanks.
