I would go with #4, but it's not one of the poll selections. Lately I've been playing a lot of random debut. No matter how many times I try, current rosters is the one way of playing OOTP that I have never been able to sink my teeth into. Usually make it till mid May or so and give up. I always get grumpy when I take over a bad team(I manage only) and the AI starts signing meatball after meatball off the waiver wire.

I want to do online eventually although I have played this game alot over the many years on my own but will have to find a league that can deal with first time online user LOL. I generally like to play with the current roster then move forward. However in the near future I am gonna play historical starting sometime in the mid 60s

I put historical. I also like to do current, but the lifespan is fairly short as current becomes fictional pretty quickly and fictional doesn't interest me even in the slightest.

One fictional league, one MLB league, and one online league.

As a newcomer to ootp, i thought for sure, initially, that I would only want to play with real MLB rosters. The idea of creating your own league and players seemed a bit hokey to me.
How wrong I was! I am a full convert to the Fictional style of play. I actually feel far more invested and interested in my fictional league with its fictional players than I do in real-life MLB (or my languishing fantasy baseball team for that matter). I guess that's the testament to just how powerful and immersive OOTP is. It can make you care as much about your fictional team as the real life team you've been rooting for since you were a kid. |

I've never been able to get into current roster or historical games. I feel that my own biases and knowledge get in the way. I have been playing fictional only since 6. More than half the fun is creating the universe and the unis and logos.

Fictional is the way to go. I start in a future date, usually 2020 and play from there. I have no expectation of the players since they are fictional. It is a blast to follow the career of the players in your league. I have tried historical and the current rosters but continue to go back to my fictional leagues. After a while your fictional players become as known to you as real players.
Gus Cross just hit his 500th home run and is only 34 years old so maybe he has enough left in him to break my leagues history total of 576 homers. It is milestones like this that make fictional so exciting. |

Current MLB interests me not a whit....I have the radio for that.....Shin-Soo Choo!....fictional and historical are where I live....and I am in a great online league that plays a fictional historical set up (we are getting ready to play the 1912 World Series tomorrow - wish me luck)......

I have started enjoying fictional a bit more, though I am no damn good at setting up a league and feeling comfortable with it. Still waiting for add on central to have a few interesting fictional quickstarts up there where someone else has done all the work to make sure it works!
I do like modern roster settings too, except looking after the minor leagues rosters get's monstrously overwhleming sometimes. |

Late at night... surrounded by pizza boxes, empty Coke bottles, and pop tart wrappers wearing my bathrobe and bedroom slippers...
oh almost forgot... wearing a plastic replica Minnesota Twins batting helmet (old school with the intertwined TC on it() with the Major League trilogy playing on a continuous loop in the background... ![]() |

Mostly fictional, although I tried a historical league last year, and it was a blast!
Online was great too, but sadly, I was the guy who vanished from the league, back around 2006. I'm pretty sure the other guys are still around the forums too. |
