Unaffiliated teams in minor leagues?

I just tried setting up a game with some unaffiliated teams at the AAA level (other teams in the league were farm teams). Well, it seems I can sign any player I want to a minor league contract, even if they were actually asking for millions of dollars. On the other hand, I wasn't able to give the unaffiliated teams a farm system of their own (e.g. an A level team). This doesn't really make for a fun game.

Is there any way to set this up so that a lower-tier independent team has actual financials and such? (Think mid-20th century PCL...)

Yes, but if the league is independent I can't set up any of the teams as farm teams of another league, right?

You are right, if you want independent teams in an affiliated minor league level, you can not make those that have no parent that independent. Those teams must follow the rules of the league they are in. There is no way to seperate them in a league structure.

To phrase this better:

Independent teams in a non-independent league cannot have minor league affiliates. Affiliated leagues cannot be set as the parent league to a different league.

Lies. If 14 is like 13, anyhow, because I was able to do it there.

Create the league as an independent one (i.e., don't hit the 'add minor league' button). Then set up whatever financial levels you want the teams to follow. Finally, affiliate the league under the 'structure' section of your soon-to-be affiliated league. You should be able to select the teams to be affiliated with the major league teams, even selecting 'None' or having a single major league team have multiple affiliates within the same league.

From here on out, the affiliated league will follow the rules of the parent league, but the teams you leave without an affiliate should have their own finances and will run like any other independent team. However, you should know that they will constantly win the league championship.

This is correct, though.
