Player Creation Ground Ball Rate

I have a problem in a fictional league whereas new pitchers are being created with ground ball rates which are way too high. Almost everyone is above 50%, and most good starting pitchers in the league are 63% to 74%.

I know I can go into League Setup -> Strategy and put in a Ground Ball Percentage modifier. That would be great for making the current GB rate more reasonable. But what can I do to affect future pitcher creation so that new pitchers have modern/realistic GB rates? Is there a setting that I am missing?

I don't see anything in the Player Creation Modifiers under Strategy which would relate to GB%. I must be overlooking something. I just see the entry under League Totals.

The global GB% in OOTP at the default league total modifier setting is way too high. So you should lower it and it will affect the pitchers in reverse as you say. Thanks for pointing this out, I never thought it was because of player attributes. Pretty dumb of me not to see this.

FYI the GB% seen in the player attributes does not mean that is what he will produce as output. Check the players pitching stats. The hitters faced and park factors must contribute. I find in my fictional league GB pitchers do not get as many in Colorado for example. It's likely that GB% varies by pitch type in-game.

IRL GB% is up big time since 2000. In 2000 it was 40.4% in 2012 it was 45.6%.

Yes.....high movement = Low GB%.....

Not sure why...because high movement = fewer homers....

But like RichW said, it is a RATING, not a hard and fast predictor......the actual performance depends (if you auto-calc modifiers) on how the pitcher's rating compares to the rest of the league......just like the CONTACT or POWER ratings.....

P.S. Individual pitchers with high movement tend to have higher GB% ratings, but as a league, if you raise the Movement PCM, the average GB% rating goes down in the league......not sure why, though......
