How Do I Release A Rule V Pick?

Tried sending him down & DFAing him. I usually either keep them or they get injured.

Can't send them down. Majors, DL, or straight release are the only options.

If you just release through the usual means they'll be returned to their previous team.

You can always trade them away. Just 'shop them' and even if you don't get value you'll be rid of them for something as opposed to nothing and any associated costs.

Do you know if this works in online leagues too? Would be handy. In previous versions we processed a trade to return the player.

I don't see why not. I'm not currently in any online leagues so I can't verify it. If I remember correctly it'll give you the standard warning about the players salary being paid. I'm not sure if that is actually paid by the releasing team. I do know that once you release them they will be transferred to the previous team and it's even noted in their history.

have you tried to offer player back to the previous team.... If I remember correctly the player you draft from the rule 5 you have to keep them on 25 man roster and if you dont want him then give him back to previous team for the $25,000. In essence you lose $50,000 unless today the amount has changed.

LGO can correct me, I'm sure, but I'm pretty sure the rules are that a) when you draft a guy via Rule V, you pay $50k for him, and b) if you offer him back to the old team, they have to pay $25k to get him back.

It's a pittance and not likely to mean much in a modern league, but I'm nearly positive you do not *lose* money by sending a player back to his original team.

decided to do a search ... I copied the only part of it but will add link as well

To prevent excessive turnover in the minor league levels, each draftee costs $50,000. If the draftee does not stay on the selecting team's 25-man (major league) roster all season, the player must be offered back to his original team at half-price. Organizations may also draft players from AA or lower to play for their AAA affiliates (for $12,000) and may draft players from A teams or lower to play for their AA affiliates (for $4,000).

The 50k rule is not part of OOTP since it is such an insignificant part of a team's budget in the game.

Ok so I picked this guy up in the Rule V draft (thanx to whomever fixed the title). When I drag him to the bottom of the transactions screen. i get a message "This will add $54,065 to your expenses" I can not DFA him or send him to AAA, so how do I send him back to the team he came from? I need to make him for a FA signing and this guy has a 31.00 ERA in 3 games 16IP.

I don't really have the answer, but you could always just edit him back onto his original team.

Re: How Do I Release A Rule V Pick?

One of the few gripes I have with the game. We need to be able to release a Rule V pick without paying the entire remaining contract. I usually just enter commish mode and edit them back to their original team.

LGO might correct you (and most others in this thread) by pointing out that there is no Rule V. It's Rule 5.

The Rule 5 draft as implemented in OOTP is a major league Rule 5 draft, although in real life, there are lower level Rule 5 selections as well. I'm not sure how often those are used, but they let teams claim players to play for a higher minor league affilliate at a reduced rate to the ML $50k.

You have to just release him. You'll have to pay the fee but he does go back to the original team.

The only other way I know of is to go through commissioner mode and edit him back to the other team.
