Revamp name file and nicknames
I've become spoiled by QuestDog's name file, however, for whatever reason it does not work well with the MLB quickstart league that comes pre-loaded with the game. Which, is mainly what I enjoy using. However, I have a hard time reverting to the namefile that comes loaded with the game as it, honestly, pales in comparison.
Is there a possibility to either change the way the game loads quick start name files or just implement Quest Dog's name file into the game itself from launch? (I realize you would have to receive permission from QD, himself.) It really does add an entirely new dimension with the game, having a more realistic name set. Also, with nicknames, can there be an option to hide them, or edit them quickly? I remember OOTP 6 had an option of just clicking on 'nickname' and putting whatever you wanted, or deleting whatever you wanted. But, it is a nuisance (for me) to have to go into commissioner mode* because I don't want my 16 year old Venezuelan IFA to already have an incongruous nickname, particularly one that was used for a player 70 years ago, like some of them are! At least have them all just be generic, 'The Sorcerer' or something. Or have them randomly generate to a player once they become established. It is, of course, a sign of a wonderful game when these are the things I have to complain about. *The older, pre-SI, games also just had a button at the top right hand corner of player cards that was an on-off button for an editor, which allowed you to quickly edit names, etc... I'd take that as well!

I see your point, but do not agree
Markus has already stopped the nickname file from importing in historical leagues, and I want that back. Your idea might stop that from coming back, if not, I have no qualms I am purely selfish on my stance

Also, with QD's name files, you can have 'black' names and 'white' names, and have more realistic pairings. Not having black players with Polish surnames, etc... That doesn't translate (or I haven't figured it out) to the quick start leagues.

Does anyone here know if QD has actually ever submitted his lists to the OOTP team to try to get them permanently inserted in the vanilla game? If not, he should. That would potentially be one of the best new features in the game!

Revamp name file and nicknames
My main gripe with nicknames is that it makes the player profile card ugly (my OCD) and I sometimes cannot read my newly drafted player name.
John "nickname so long" Doe... It's just l too many characters cramming up space. Even for the short nicknames. Last edited by SirMichaelJordan; 03-12-2014 at 07:41 PM. |
