I have somehow managed to avoid buying this game this whole time but will be looking closely at this next patch. I've had to fill the void by purchasing NHL 14 and trying to play it like a sim

Hopefully this patch convinces me enough to buy it.

I read through the new patch notes and everything sounds great – one area that is a bit vague is about whether or not hiring and fire the Head Coach for the team you’re GM’ing has been put in place with this patch… They talk about the new hiring/firing system which sounds great, but there is no indication that human GM’s can hire and fire their Head Coach…

I think OOTP uses USA Eastern time when they announce releases so it's probably Friday in Europe before we get the new version.

Lest hope de Mac version will also be ready at the same time, I've got this feeling Mac users will have to wait one more day.

Based on Jeff's posts and past releases, if the patch comes out today it will probably be late afternoon to night EST. So give it some time guys, it's only morning EST right now.

I don't think so, I think that feature will be released in version 2.0
Really would like to see that feature as well, I don't like to line-change and everything I just wanna trade and manage the hockey club.

My questions:

How does the game handle new Regens?
Like how does it calculates when the next Crosby should be created in the game, in some games this was handled when the real Crosby retires the year after he would get included as a youth player with some other name of course.

And the new scouting, how difficult will it be with those hidden attributes?
Like the first 5 players at the draft should be known after a while and I hope that doesn't become some secret till draft day.

And has there been tested if a 1st overall has almost the same value as a 3rd line NHL-er?
At EA young players especially the first few players are always rated way too low and will get sent back to junior because they're too light for playing in the NHL. I hope in this game we will see a few players each year who can play NHL right from the first year they'll get drafted.

You can do that already even without a head coach. Just assign some of your duties to your assistant.

There are no regens. All the players are newly generated and new superstar has nothing to do with another one's retirement.

If i set it so my assistants handle the lines and training etc which one of my assistants does the game choose to handle it if i have like 4 of them?

It doesn't use a specific assistant, just the same AI routines the computer-controlled teams to make those choices. Right now, the individual assistant ratings only come into play in determining the quality of training and scouting.

And even earlier in the morning PST, which I'm on, and that's the frame of reference I was using. We found one thing that needed fixing in the new build, but Malte's addressed that, and all of yesterday's changes have been verified as working properly. So we're just going to wait a little while longer for any last-minute emergency tester reports (the European testers will be getting home in the next hour or two and can take a quick look at it), and then we'll go ahead with getting the downloads set up.

Yeah I thought one were in a different time zone. That's good to know, keeps things realistic about releases and such.

I'm curious as to why you call it Franchise Hockey Manager when you can't even do the first and most important thing a manager have to do when taking on a team i.e. make sure that the team has a good Head Coach?

If the game had been called Franchise Hockey Coach I could have understood it but for now it isn't possible to play as a manager at all.

A huge part of managing a team IRL is about communicating with your coaching staff. They telling you what they need and you telling them what to do. Currently there is zero such communication in this game.

You either have to do everything yourself and the staff do nothing (except get paid) or you let some generic AI do everything and you lose all control of how anything is done.

I'm assuming that with the majority (by forum viewing) are North American do you guys play NHL only? or do you load up the big Euro leagues too for the players? Like KHL/Sweden etc
