how hard can you push contract negotiations?
My Ace is due for an extension, and he wants a 9 year deal for 23 mil/year. He's 28 and coming off a Cy young year with a 21-3 record and a 2.73 era. This is my first big contract negotiation, any idea how far I can lower his demand without ticking him off?

Unless he's already in a surly mood, you can get away with low-balling him at least once, maybe twice. Pay close attention to his mood as shown here in the Contract Offer window:

Check out his BNN Player Page and see what makes him tick. If he's Very High for Greed... lowballing him even once, depending on how much you're lowballing him, could give you a flat refusal.

In the BNN Player Page, it also pays to check his Loyalty. Higher ratings mean he's more likely to stay. If you lowball by too big a margin, I've found they don't drop their demands much if at all.
