New to Game
Hello everyone,
I bought OOTP 14 and played just a little bit last fall, and now have purchased OOTP 15. I am thrilled with the concept of the game. In order to learn the game, I have been playing MLB quick start games until I become more familiar. With that said, I have some questions that I do need some help with. #1: What is the "Slot Bonus Baseline"? It comes set at 1,500,000. What happens if this is increased? Is there an amount that works best to mimic real life (starting in 2014)? #2: What does "allow incomplete minor league rosters (ghost players)" do? What are some pro/cons of using this option? #3: Does the early season start date due to the Australia series affect schedules in future years? Is it suggested to use a different schedule? Is there a link to one that has been created? #4 Scouting: A) "Overall rating based on AI evaluation, not pure ratings" Can someone please explain this a bit more in detail? B ) I use the 20-80 scouting system. Can someone please explain why, at the beginning of my first season, The Overall/Potential Rating under "Other Ratings" in the Profile Tab is different than the "Current / Potential" Rating under the Scouting Reports tab? It seems that after the first scouting reports of my head scout in June, these numbers match, however, they do not at season's start. Is there a difference in these two ratings (the ones on the Profile Tab and the ones on the Scouting Reports tab?) C ) I use Scouting Accuracy set to HIGH and devote more money to my scouting system than league average. With regard to the above post, is there a reason why there are some players who have, for example, 55 current / 55 potential ratings when their Basic Batting / Basic Pitching ratings are awful (such as 20 / 20 for everything)? How can these players be rated so much higher than players rated at 35 current / 35 potential with seemingly average or better batting / pitching ratings? #5: With regard to the Minor Leagues, playing as the Chicago Cubs, my drop down team list goes: Iowa (AAA) Tennesee (AA) Daytona (A) Kane County (A) Boise (Short Season A) Chicago (VSL) Chicago N (DSL) Chicago N2 (DSL) Mesa (R) International Complex ...I imagine VSL/DSL are Venezuelan and Dominican Summer leagues...however, is there a reason they are ranked ahead of "Rookie" league in the drop down list? How should the VSL/DSL teams be used? What is the difference between the DSL/VSL and the International Complex? And, Where should the players in the International Complex be promoted? That's a lot of questions for right now and I will appreciate anyone who takes the time to respond. Last edited by MKG1734; 06-14-2014 at 09:35 PM. |

#2) Ghost Players allow you and the AI to sim without having to fix any roster issues in the universe. You see how many minor league teams you have. Every team, majors or minors has to have their roster correct to sim if this is unchecked.
I like it because it removes some micromanagement that is not fun to me. #4) A) There is an option to change AI evaluation. You can adjust the weight the AI puts on stats and ratings. It allows you to customize how the AI sees players. B) I do not have a lot of experience with scouts. This comes from posts I have read from others. These screens are snap shots. They are not always from the same date. I do not remember which one is the most recent. If you search the OOTP14 forums you will find posts explaining it. C) I would guess your scouts do not have entirely accurate information or your AI eval is heavily weighted towards a previous seasons stats. If you are still getting a feel for scouting there are some things you can do to learn about accuracy. 1) Turn scouting off, check the players you are wondering about, then turn it back on. 2) Copy your league file and turn scouting off or 100% accurate and check what you want in that game. This only works once. Once you sim forward you have to recopy. The only reason I recommend this is that OOTP can be overwhelming without scouting. If the Fog of War it provides is more frustrating than fun you can turn it off until the challenge of it seems more fun. Good luck, Tom

Bump
Bumping this thread as I am still looking for help with a few questions I have:
#1: What is the "Slot Bonus Baseline"? It comes set at 1,500,000. What happens if this is increased? Is there an amount that works best to mimic real life (using the 2014 season as an example)? #5: With regard to the Minor Leagues, (using Chicago Cubs as an example) the drop down team list goes: Iowa (AAA) Tennesee (AA) Daytona (A) Kane County (A) Boise (Short Season A) Chicago (VSL) Chicago N (DSL) Chicago N2 (DSL) Mesa (R) International Complex ...I imagine VSL/DSL are Venezuelan and Dominican Summer leagues...however, is there a reason they are ranked ahead of "Rookie" league in the drop down list? How should the VSL/DSL teams be used? What is the difference between the DSL/VSL and the International Complex? And, Where should the players in the International Complex be promoted? #6: With regard to AI evaulations: What percentages are suggested for the weight given to rating / current yr stats / prior yr stats? |

Slot Bonus Baseline is used as sort of a rough guide to what draft picks will be paid if you offer them slot. I believe if it is increased then the amount draftees are paid will go up. I believe this changes per historical season so if you are already playing at 2014 it will be pretty accurate, but someone else can verify. I've never adjusted it as it already seemed pretty accurate to me. Keep in mind that high draft picks will not normally accept slot and will negotiate for a lot more money! Per the manual:
Used to determine the slot bonus recommendations for draft picks, when Advanced Draftee Signing is enabled. The Slot Bonus for the #1 pick in the draft is usually around three times the baseline. Last edited by Peregrine; 06-16-2014 at 01:24 AM. |
