Is it just me, or is 3D pretty awful?

When I check the 3D box, it doesn't even show any players on the field when a ball is "hit".

Yes, it's definitely a work in process. Many of us think it went backwards in the last two patches.

i'm pretty sure they're going to make 3d shine. but just not right now... the whole game shines - so why not 3d - let's be patient and enjoy the show! anyway, i'm a happy camper with these low specs for a game complex as this - imagine i'll need 4gigs of v-ram to make 3d mode works (counting the stiches on the ball...) ;-)
cheers!

Sometimes when a new part of the overall experience is rolled out, it has to go through growth stages. 3D is here to stay, and it will improve.

Be patient. OOTP devs is not EA with hundreds of developers. Although if EA handled this game, it would probably be crap.

You can't have the best of both worlds. If you want visuals, get MLB the Show. If you want the sim engine, stick with OOTP.
