Tracking staff and free agent availability

Is there a way to watch for staff and free agent availability during the off-season, without checking every day? Are there months when nothing is going to happen, allowing me to skip a whole month at a time? I've short-listed staff that I'd like to hire, but I've seen no indication that I'll be alerted if they become available.

Also, is it possible to swap managers and coaches -- in effect, giving one a promotion and another a demotion?

There is no way I know to track staff the way you are suggesting.

To swap managers/coaches just go to one of the staff you want to move and assign him to another spot in your organization. This will swap the person currently in the destination spot with the guy you are moving.

I believe it is at the end of the season (playoffs), if someone knows differently please correct me. I'm not 100% sure but that may be at end of the season for each level so it may vary a bit per league/level.
