And perhaps best of all...
Ralph Garcia - 11 appearances for the '72 and '74 Padres. First time I've seen him in color except for his corner of a Topps rookie card:

Herb McQuaid ID
Maybe this has been addressed before and I missed it, but I have two different individuals identified as Herb McQuaid in my collection. I'm assuming all but the first photo below are of McQuaid. Any ideas who this other guy might be?

The other player looks a little like Gordon Rhodes.

The first picture is in the McQuaid picture set as well, but could it be Spencer Adams?

Dennis Debarr
Here's a new listing from Kyle's Sportscards on e-Bay - it's the first image I've seen of this tough first-year Jay in color....

I have been collecting photos (ball cards, and straight pics) for my 1976 replay...for many of the minor leaguers i go to old newspapers....so, I thought i would post a couple pics of guys who became major leaguers....One with the Phillies (Dave Downs) and the other with the Royals and Cubs after being a 2nd round pick of the Phillies (Derek Botelho)...I will post more from time to time if you like these....

John Blanchard A's and Braves?
Are there any non-airbrushed images that anyone knows of for catcher John Blanchard for Kansas City or Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves?
Yankees traded him to A's in May of '65 and KC dealt him to Braves in September of '65. He was in camp for the Braves in 1966 and 1968, but was a late cut both springs. |

I looked up Jim French's record and for a .196 lifetime hitter he struck out only 78 times, which is surprisingly low. He must have hit a lot of weak ground balls to infielders for easy outs or hit some hard liners right at fielders. He also drove in 51 runs in 607 career at bats, which considering his limited playing time is not terrible. French fell below The Mendoza Line often, failing to hit .200 or more four times in his seven MLB seasons of 1965 to 1971 - all with the expansion Washington Senators (present day Texas Rangers)..

Mark Whiten with Braves!
In my growing interest in gathering images of all who played for the Atlanta Braves, have never seen a proper photo of Mark Whiten, He was with them for three months in the middle of the 1996 season, but was traded in August less than 24 hours after hitting a pinch-hit home run! Any good, color Whiten Brave photo would be hugely appreciated.

Tommy Davis
I think we've all seen this pose of Tommy Davis (1959-76) on the lift during his Spring Training-Only stint with the Yankees in 1976 (he was released in what I remember was a surprising decision, just as they broke camp).
But every time I've seen it it's been washed out or blurry or looked like a photo of a photo. Now the original shot has popped up, along with a second pose! Last edited by Merkle923; 07-29-2017 at 12:51 AM. |
