Teaching New Positions?

Any tips or tricks? How can I know when someone has the right defensive ratings to try a new position?

Like let's say a LF with 60 Range, 60 Error, 60 Arm, can he be successfully switched to CF with a 50+ rating?

Things like that.

This is one area where I "cheat" a bit. If I want to move a guy to another position but I'm unsure if he'll be able to handle it (e.g. a first baseman moving to left field, or a second baseman becoming a third baseman), I'll sometimes go into the player editor and give him 200 experience at the new position to see what the resulting rating is. I'll then edit it back to the original value (usually 0) and have the guy learn the new position if it's worth doing.

Does he have a rating at CF?

Can't you tell quite easily from the individual infielder or outfielder ratings if he'd be good at the position you want to move him to?

The items you want to look at are whether or not the guy has the stats to play the position, which in this case, I think he does, although not at gold glove level, and the guy's work ethic and intelligence. Players with high scores in those traits tend to pick up positions faster than others. Not that an idiot can't learn a new position, but it will take him much more time.

The best place to learn a new position is during spring training or in the minors, so if you want someone to do so, it's best to get them started on it while they're coming up. Also, players with good ratings can play other positions that they don't have a score in, although they won't be as effective.

Is his ratings 60/80 or 60/100?

Either way for a CF the range needs to be pretty top notch.
