Steve Burke and others
Since he's in there amid the Dean Burk, Glenn Burke, and Leo Burke images, that ID is a certainty.
Speaking of Leo Burke, they got him during a brief stop in St. Louis (30 games) in 1963: |

Gino Cimoli 1956
And speaking of cameos, here's Gino Cimoli during his brief stay in Baltimore in the second half of the 1964 season - affording a beautiful look at the Baltimore "Star Spangled Banner" sesquicentennial patch...

Something For The Jeffersons
Dated 1977, a UPI wire photo showing a visit with old Baltimore teammates Jesse Jefferson and Doug DeCinces. And who would the guest be? ;-)

Jose Oscar Brito
Here's an example of the trickiness of names and spring rosters.
I have pitcher Jose Brito listed as having been on the Cincinnati Reds' spring rosters in 1980, 1981, and 1982, and on the St. Louis Cardinals' spring rosters in 1983 and 1984. The Topps Vault currently has photos of an Oscar Brito in a 1984 Cardinals' uniform and a 1985 Orioles' uniform. After some exploring around Baseball-reference.com, I learned that the full name of this player was Jose Oscar Brito. B-r.com calls him Oscar Brito, just like Topps Vault. The two Topps Vault photos are at the top. Underneath is Brito's 1985 TCMA card, which called him Jose. I didn't find this player on the Orioles' 1985 spring roster. I can only surmise that he was a non-roster invitee that year. Last edited by Cusick; 02-25-2015 at 04:24 PM. |

Edwin Rodriguez San Diego Padres 1984
Second baseman Edwin Rodriguez was one of the most obscure obscurians of 1980's MLB. In parts of three seasons (1982 Yankees, 1983 and 1985 Padres) Edwin got 25 at-bats and five hits to finish with a .227 average. Here he is in a Topps Vault image dated 1984.

Dennis Kinney, White Whale Reliever
Rarely seen in Detroit or San Diego uniforms and of course, in today's Topps Vault dump, shown in each.

Thanks, Merkle, I have been looking for Dennis forever as a Tiger. Now I have decent shots of everybody on the '81 Detroit club to fill the gaps in the card sets. I am building 1980's MLB, one club at a time...

Mike Hedlund
Hed-lund. Slight emphasis on the "Hed," similar to "Highland."

Head'-Lund. Slight emphasis on the first syllable. The second "D" is pronounced.

Doc Leitner 1887
I have been notified by the family of Doc Leitner that his photo in the Facepack actually pictures his semi-pro teammate, William Truart. I have replaced that image with the one below, which Leitner's great-granddaughter has confirmed is the Major Leaguer.
Thanks to the Leitner family for properly identifying Doc!

Turk Farrell - Second Stint with Phillies 1967-69
Attached are some images of Farrell with Philadelphia during his first stint. I don't think I have ever seen or asked before but does anyone have any nice posed images like these of Farrell during his second stint with Phillies?
Thank you, Jeff |
