Does playing the games out make you do better than autoplay?

I always sim but I've heard that if you play each individual game out you might do better. Do game mechanics actually chang or do you just think you're doing because of the micro-managing?

Although it feels like there is a difference, I'm not sure there is one. What can really make a difference is how your day to day lineups are formed. OOTP does a great job of allowing you to set which guys will spot start, how often they will, and who will take over for a player to get rest, but setting lineups yourself can optimize the players you are putting on the field the best. For example, if I am giving my leadoff hitter a day off, I can set who will leadoff instead of the AI picking someone who may not be best. Or I may have to give my SS an offday, but the backup infielder I have is terrible at SS, in which I move my 2B over to SS for the day and have two guys playing optimal positions. Sure, this may not end up making a difference in the outcome of the game, but every little bit helps.

I've rarely played out every game, but I use 7-day lineups all season now and it really helps me use every single portion of my roster the best.

Game mechanics are the same, the only difference is essentially whether you're a better manager than the AI.

I feel like you might win 1, maybe 2 games per season that you wouldn't otherwise have won, simply because a human mind will always tend to beat an AI, at least until the day when we welcome our robotic overlords.

Opposite experience here. I always find that I do worse when I play out games...

There's going to be debate about this forever. My personal opinion is, no matter how smart they make the AI, I will always be just a bit better than it at managing games. Therefore, I will always be at war with myself over simming to save time and playing games out to help my team win.

Yeah, but will the AI ever take a phone call while playing, get distracted and allow a pitcher to give up 15 runs before pulling him..........

Before we all agree how great we manage a game and how we would win more games than the AI managing every game ask yourself a question. How many times have you hit the wrong button and screwed the pooch?

I know I have.

PAWN that brought back memories I have made many screw-ups and at times the screw-ups actually worked but more often than not I lost a game because of it .... me myself and I are to blame for them loses. Gotta let the players scream at me(or media) and 2nd guess me for my mistake

So many chances, so many disasters... pitch around, pitch to contact, hit batter, intentional walk... I've goofed them all.

Not for me. I have a tendency to play out games when I'm looking to up a pitcher's stats and I always end up leaving them in a few batters too long.
