All-Star game two players from the same position

Hello,
I am a long time OOTP player who just updated his season from OOTP14 with the new OOTP 16.

First of all, I love the new system of combining fan voting with my own picks to come up with a player who will be in the all-star game.

My question is this: Why can't you have two players eligible from the same position?

The situation is that in my fictional league, I have two Shortstops: an old veteran who usually plays DH, but still plays SS once a week or so and a young, rookie who plays nearly everyday. Both players are playing at an all-star caliber, but only the old, wily veteran is listed under my options for who to vote for (even though the rookie is having a better season).

Can you not have two players eligible for the same position from the same team?

Also, I just noticed that one of my starters who hasn't even once appeared in relief is eligible for the all-star voting as a reliever. Weird...

I believe that the game, much like MLB, pre sets the ballots on the basis of people assumed to be the starter at that position on a given team. Which is why in the real world you sometimes see players in the minors on the ballot because someone in New York assumed they were the regular for X team. The problem with the DH as always in the real and OOTP world is that there rarely is just a DH position. Some teams do have a DH like the Red Sox, but other teams will rotate players. I am not playing DH but is there a DH voting spot? Can you change your older SS into a DH on the set position pull down?

There's no DH voting slot - since some (most?) teams wouldn't have a DH, there may not be a lot of people eligible, and I didn't want a crappy guy getting in because he was the only one on the ballot.

Otherwise, yeah, the ballots are not set based on performance or actual position played, so you will notice things be off there occasionally. Had to balance crowding the ballot with too many guys, vs leaving guys off.

That's really unfortunate because the rookie shortstop that isn't listed has a slash line of .396/.476/.585 with 9 HR, and 47 SB at the break and he plays stellar defense.

The older player is still doing very well, but his .316 AVG and 19 HR aren't quite as good as the MVP candidate that the other guy is

Your rookie could be named as a backup to the roster since the ballot has no bearing on that role.

Yup, with stats like that he damn well better be the backup. If not, that's definitely a bug

How does he get named as a backup? Since he's a rookie, his popularity is basically unknown, and he's not on the options for myself to pick him

Starters are based on ballotting. The backups are not limited to the ballot - they are essentially drawn entirely on who the best performers are in the league at the time, completely irrespective of popularity, where they play, etc... as long as the team fills out the team properly (ie. makes sure they have a few infielders, a few outfielders, etc...)

Okay great, that should work out then. If I were to go into Commissioner mode and manually vote, my two shortstops are the two that are picked, but I'd rather not do manual voting when there is such a cool system in place already. Hopefully it works out!
