The DH
For those who play fictional leagues, I am curious how many of you remove the DH from your fictional leagues. Personally I hate the DH as I love the strategy involved with pitchers batting late in games.
If you do not allow for the DH, how many remove the DH from your minors. Once again since I don't allow DH in my ML, I don't allow DH in my minors. Once again I am just curious. Thanks Taz |

Sometimes no, sometimes yes.
Minors - always - just like real life I want my prospects to get maximum playing time, and having the DH gives at least one more prospect regular AB's. ![]() |

In my MLB leagues I put it in both leagues because I think that's going to be the reality in a few years, in others leagues where I don't have it in the majors I do leave it on for the minors, I want more batters getting at bats.

No DH no where....
I mean no DH anywhere.... With the DH you never get the joy of seeing a pitcher have a great day at the plate. No Rick Wise no-hitter with 2 home runs off his bat. |

In my fictional leagues I almost always use it. I like the DH on a personal level but on a practical level I think it helps the AI out a little bit when it doesn't have to sub for a pitcher.

Bru is with Blue on this too.
For me, the thing about the DH is that it gives me more lineup and roster flexibility. Like having two [barely] 1B's with big bats. Only one can play, the other one sits or gets traded, without the DH. And in the minors, this is even more important as I would need both to develop into their potential, keeping them with me if I need both bats or trading one who has become attractive with playing time. But, being a traditionalist, and usually playing in the AL, I will go with real life in turning off the NL DH.

DH or not in the majors, can go either way.
DH in the minors for developing hitters, though I really wish we could put in place the real-life rule on this (at the AA and AAA levels, pitchers do hit if both are NL farm clubs). For fictional leagues, I'd love it if we had more options: different rules by division, or even "each team decides their ground rules," though the AI maybe couldn't handle that well. When I was a kid playing card games (anyone remember Pursue the Pennant?), I had a IMO cool idea: the home team would choose the DH rule or not for each game. That would be a fascinating bit of strategy to argue over. |

Yeah, I'm selfish that way. Funny though. As a baseball fan, I am a traditionalist and I can definitely respect the arguments of those who think the DH is a travesty upon the game. As a [virtual] baseball GM/manager, I like those options.

First rule i change in MLB quickstart is putting a DH in the NL. I think eventually we will get there. The game is lacking in really lacking in offense right now. The last time it was this bad the AL added the DH.
It is a funny thing about people's debate with the DH. I find that fans of AL teams support the DH and fans of NL teams dont. Our perspectives are developed by who we watch I think. |

I think it is more likely the DH will leave MLB altogether than the NL will adopt it. And I think neither will be happening anytime soon. Either move would cause an uprising of anger and resentment from some quarter and MLB, especially with this commissioner, does not want to rock the boat.

I didn't like when the AL adopted the DH. I didn't like when the Central division was added. I didn't like when inter-league games started. I like OOTP and it's field of dreams. There, I given everybody four things to argue about and one that we can all agree upon. |

Same here. No DH in my fictional or any minor leagues connected to it. One of my favorite things to do is try to hunt down pitchers who can actually hit because they obviously have alot more value in a non DH league.

No DH in majors in my fictional league. When I play real-life, I always GM or manage a National League team.

I hate the DH. First thing I did in setting up my 2015 MLB Quickstart was to rid the AL of the DH. I do, as others have mentioned, keep it in my minor leagues for development purposes.
