I've started 3 different MLB Quickstarts now (confession, haven't finished the first season in any of them yet) and in all 3 the Nationals start out TERRIBLE.
I haven't actually played as them but just seen them start really slow. Not sure if it's an omen, but maybe the nationals? That Scherzery contract was a poop-dangle, and I'm pretty sure I saw B-Harp get injured long term in 2 out of 3 of them... For what it's worth....it's pretty late and I'm having trouble reading my own typing....

I found the Yankees challenging because of the long term contracts to old vets who don't produce, much like the Phillies.

This might take a little heat but Detroit is a pretty tough situation. Sure, you'll probably have 2-3 years of success at the beginning of your game but if you're playing long term they are extremely difficult with the huge amounts of money due to aging vets like Sanchez, Verlander, Kinsler, Cabrera, etc. who deteriorate quickly in OOTP but not necessarily IRL.
It also didn't help me when Illitch died and his (much more controlling) son took over team operations.
