Here's a suggestion: Preset injury substitutions

(sorry, I know this is probably the wrong forum for this)

Something to include in the depth chart maybe. Like:

every X day,
if tired,
if injured.

Or you could combine it with Defensive substitutions.

Just a thought. Sometimes the AI makes some wonky substitutions if your starting position player is injured!

The AI should use the primary sub in your depth chart, if he is not playing elsewhere. If this is not happening it could be a bug. Can you confirm this?

Mmm, yeah, it's mostly based on empirical evidence. I can't document it unfortunately.

The only thing I can say is my center fielder got injured in the 3rd inning and he was replaced by my reserve second basemen and I've seen it happen a few times. Plus I remember hearing a couple of grumblings on the forum about it. So, if it works for other people then maybe it's how I have my subs set up.

Tell ya what... I'll double check my depth chart, then keep an eye out when/if happens again then try to post it.

It may be a problem. The question is; did the AI leave a qualified CF on the bench? If so, where was that guy in your depth charts? If you don't have a reserve capable of playing CF then the AI will choose somebody with any ratings at all. Maybe the 2B was number 2 at CF.

i've seen problems when the same players are involved in both substitutions. if it isn't a situation of 2 players swapping positions, it should adhere to your depth chart, as rich noted.

e.g. i have 1b and dh sub for each other, let's say every 4th day. if they are both the primary sub for 1b and dh, respectively, only one of them plays on the 4th day. i think if one is the primary sub and one is the secondary sub (with an empty primary sub slot) for each other then it works as intended.

i haven't played careers in '16 like i did in '15, yet. so it's been a while, and the memory is a bit faded.

Ah... good questions. Yes, there was an outfielder who had experience in center field on the bench and my second baseman had no experience. The next game, the experienced outfielder started as the replacement in the lineup. I purposely left the spot in the lineup blank after putting the injured player on the DL.
