Nolan Ryan

I am playing a historical league with random debut. Nolan Ryan just entered the draft as a reliever with 20 stamina (20-80) and a 94-96 fastball! Does he gradually become the "Ryan Express" or is this just how it is? I know I can edit but im just wondering if this is how he really comes in and if he changes on his own or do I need to edit it. I have also wondered the same about Babe Ruth. When he comes in as a pitcher do you have to change him or does the game do it?

It depends on how you have your historical set up. If you have it set up to adjust the players each year based on real life, they should develop more like they did in reality. If you don't, they probably won't. It's especially noticeable with a guy like Ryan, who debuted when he was 19 and threw only 3 innings that year, as the game automatically drastically weakens players who only have a few ABs/PAs in their debut season (so that guys who went 1-2 in their major league careers don't become superstars all the time.)

Set the game up to automatically recalculate ratings every year or every three years using historical stats and he will develop similar to real life. Just turn on retire according to history or you will have some guys playing until they are 50, even some like All-Stars.

In my world Nolan Ryan is a 28 year old middle reliver sometimes Closer down in Mexico. Not even MLB worthy

So I did what you said and after the first season Ryan retired at 19. What did I do wrong? I had numerous players retire after the first year with these new settings. Probably around 15 players all younger than 30

Well I must have really done something wrong as I had 16 on my major league roster retire as well. This is pretty upsetting. I was seven seasons in and had a nice history going. I did not back up anything. I guess there is no way to go back and correct the settings that I changed?

Why? How did you import him? In the 2 threads i made for Majesty, Nolan was great through 1985, i gave up at that point. 1 yr reclac was much closer to RL Nolan vs 3 yr recalc. My clone of Nolan Ryan, Rick "Wild Thing" Vaughn is an occasional starter/closer who walks a lot of batter but can mow them down as well.

He was a reliever until 1974 in my league, played until 1994, won, IIRC, 351 games, 4000+ Ks. The key with him seems to be patience. Mine isn't the only story I know of him being a OOTP late-bloomer.
