GC pictures
925 is definitely Welchel, I have him ID'd as such. And I should hope that 948-949 is Jackie, given that it's followed by a long run (950-957) of Jackie in Pittsburgh, and going back even earlier, pics of him with KC, the Angels, and the Denver Bears.
926-927 are, however, Bob Gordon in White Sox camp (1963, I believe) so the Angels at 928-929 and 930-931 might not be "W"s after all, but G or H surnames. Anybody got an idea for the year? Can't be too many LHP floating around, I wouldn't think. And I know I was supposed to be a good boy and be researching, but I got distracted by finding pictures of Craig Anderson in the GQ file (748-749), spring training 1962, wearing a Met hat and everything. Some color correction (I think I'm improving, just a little) and here we go: |

Help with a project
I've left high and dry by someone who'd promised to help, so I am reaching out to the board.
Can someone take this image of Taylor Duncan and make a 1975 Orioles custom card? You can post it here or email it to me at carty43@netzero.net This is for a draft day project for my blog and web site. I am not requesting you delete the Topps watermarks. Thank you very much. |

Craig Anderson
Despite the date Topps put on those Anderson images, they are from 1964. Topps didn't shoot the Mets - except for one minor leaguer - in spring training 1962; the 1963 ST shoots show the Mets in home pinstripes. The '64 images are in road grays with a cloudy sky - like the Anderson shots.

The "GC" Angels are identified correctly - Topps auctioned them off on eBay as Bertoni (batter) and Wright (pitcher).

Custom cards, etc.
I've noticed lately that we've strayed from the original intent of this forum and, more specifically, this thread. OOTP allows for the use of photos in its games, which is why this thread began in the first place. As players and modders looked for more representative images to show during game play, forum members responded here with an incredible array of photos: portrait, action, team-specific, B&W, color, colorized, Photoshopped, etc. Over the past several years I've allowed the focus to broaden in order to be more welcoming and inclusive, an effort that I believe has been successful due to the active participation of hundreds of users. The images shared on this forum have been useful far beyond game play and the OOTP forum is recognized as one of the best places on the web to find player photos.
That broader focus brings us to the topic of custom cards. I know of at least five custom card makers who frequent the forum and benefit from the use of the photos shared here. I think it's great that the images displayed on the forum have such broad application and welcome occasional posts showcasing the work that card makers wish to share, especially those who create photo packs that can be used for game play. I do not, however, want this forum to become a clearinghouse for custom card makers. Please do not solicit that type of service in this forum. Let's keep a tighter focus here: player photos and identification. My continued thanks to all who contribute and participate for making this such a great place to share and enjoy baseball photos.

We're not straying ... we're 'evolving'. This is an epic thread, and it improves each month. With that said, custom cards and the side categories (watermark removal, probable copyrighted designs), should be kept dark. Not a bad idea. J |

I hate to admit I'm unsure of a Met, but it happens. I'm thinking this might be Dick Smith. Or maybe I'm just hoping it is he. Hopefully someone can confirm or deny. (Some rudimentary color correction attempted)

Met Batter "On Deck"
...is the infamous first baseman-outfielder Leon "Duke" Carmel, depicted at spring training 1964.

Looking for better version of this Joe Ginsberg shot...
Classic shot I've seen floating around, but looks crummy here. (It's a scan of an autographed photo sold by an outfit called Autograph Warehouse.) Do any of you kind folks by chance have a bigger version you'd be willing to share? I don't care about the autograph. Many thanks for any help!

Folder EM coming together
Except for a block of 1950s era images I am not strong on, made a lot of progress on the massive Topps Vault Folder EM. Here are some of the key mysteries that remain. Clues where available
EM964 (set among the Rs) EM779 EM6990 (among the Ts) EM355 (AMONG THE pS) EM488 (Also among Ps) Thanks and apologies are in abundance. But I want to complete these threads. |
