So Close and Yet So Far...

Took over an underachieving team and did my best to overhaul it. Expected to sneak into a Cup-Style playoffs and go from there. Instead I managed to keep going to a deciding game and finding a way to just barely win, and took the team to the final round, where we ran into a buzzsaw team with a deeper bench and lost the Baseball Cup 4 games to 2. I should be deliriously happy, but yet, I can't help but think--if we only had better speed, if we only had slightly lower BB/9 rates--oh well! Gonna try hard to get 'em next year!! Anyone else got a recent "Oh so close!" moment? As a PS: I was the runner-up for this league's version of the World Series, and I only got a 53 score. Tough Crowd!

Well, since I currently sit at 13-29 in my league, I can only think, "Wish I were Trebro"! |

try being up 3 games to none in World Series then blowing that and losing the World Series in 7. Then the following year get back to the World Series only to blow a 3 games to 1 lead and losing that in 7 games as well GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR such heart breakers. Truth be told I was furious just as if it happened in real life. I had wanted to break every microchip in my computer at the time LOL.

This goes back a few versions but still hurts. I won 9 playoff games in a row. Two sweeps and the first game of the WS, then was swept out myself.

For this one, I was disappointed, but since we were down 1-0, then 2-1, then 3-2, I was kinda prepped for losing the Cup. If I had done what you did 2 years in a row, I might have needed a new laptop!

Mine was rather unsurprising tbh, 2019 as the Cubs was 3-0 up in the world series, obviously lost 4-3. Game seven was a heartbreaker, was leading by 2 runs going into bottom of the 9th against the Dodgers they hit a 2 run HR into a walk off HR. Yes i cried a little but expected it since im GM of the Cubs. |

Fitting that the Rockies were your team. 2007 still hurts.

Up by 3 in the 8th inning of Game 7, my pitcher was obviously done and I had plenty of high quality guys out of the pen. My finger slipped and I hit enter instead of making the move...hitter doubled which opened the door for a big inning and we lost 4-3. Maybe I lose anyway, but still...

I have gone a real life year without managing a winning team in OOTP.

My OOTP15 game almost drove me insane last summer. Quickstart as the Red Sox from 2014 with all real stuff. I had good success winning it all in 2020, '26, '29 and '33. Then from 2034-52, I made the playoffs 17 times in 19 years (9 divisions, 8 wild cards) without a title. By round: Wild card game: 2-6 (lost four in a row 2036-39) ALDS: 8-3 ALCS: 5-3 World Series: 0-5 I damn near cried when I won in '53.

2nd season as the Indians GM and 2nd year in a row we end in a tie for a WC spot. Just like last season, we win the tiebreaker game and then two ace pitchers go at it and it turned into a hit and run fest. We were down 4-0, then 4-3, then 6-3, then tie 6-6, then go down 9-6, then 10-6 and then score 4 in the 9th to go tie the game 10-10, then score two more in the 10th to win 12-10!!! 2nd year in a row we go to the divisional series! Last year Detroit swept us and this year we get the best team in baseball, Boston at 104-58. |

My Rays in the last five seasons of my current MLB game: 2016 - Made the wildcard, Lost to Oakland in the ALDS despite being up 2-1 in the series. Game 4 was won on a walk-off home run. 2017 - Made the wildcard, swept by the Royals in the ALDS. 2018 - Won the division, lost to the Royals in 4 games in the ALDS thanks to a game-tying 9th inning grand slam in Game 4. 2019 - Made the wildcard, slaughtered by Texas in the ALDS. 2020 - Won the division, had the best record in the AL, lost in the ALCS to the Royals despite leading the series 3-2. I'm making "oh so close" into an art form. On the plus side, this new Rays/Royals rivalry has been quite fun to watch develop. Last edited by Fyrestorm3; 07-08-2015 at 10:39 PM. |

First time I won the world series the game crashed and went back to game 6 (I was up 3-2), had to play it again, luckily I won so maybe this doesn't belong here, but if I'd lost...
