Can you start a pitcher in the field on days he's not pitching?
So I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I recently acquired Japanese superstar, Shoehai Otani, who has the unique set of ratings that make him both a front line starter and an everyday outfielder.
I was wondering if it was at all possible to set my team up in a way in which he can be a true two way player -- starting one game and then playing in the outfield the next four. I'm sure I could do this by micromanaging on a day-by-day basis, but I'd like to set it up so it does this on an extended sim. Can that be done? |

Another alternative would be to start him against righties and put him in the outfield against lefties, though that wouldn't be quite what you want either.

I don't think anyone can do what you suggest in real life, i.e start 4 days in the outfield and then pitch.
IIRC, Otani gets the day off the game before and after he pitches. P.S. And honestly he does not look like a big prospect as a hitter. Last edited by Questdog; 07-09-2015 at 11:00 PM. |

I tried it once with a guy (literally his name was Guy Hecker) I got in an expansion draft. Going from memory, he was 25/26ish, listed as an SP. He was a 65-70 ish in pitching potential (on 100 scale), ratings slightly lower, an avg def 1B, potentials in hitting 75/60/40/90/50 ish, ratings except for eye (maxed) 15/20 under potential.
1st yr (age 25 ish) strictly an SP with a horrible ERA 5+. next ST played him 1B, then alternated months (Apr SP, May 1B, etc). ERA 4 ish slash 280/370/390. 2nd yr 4 months in horrible ERA 6 +, hitting about same as yr 1, made him FT 1B, never looked back..eventually got him avg or so position ratings at 2b/3b/LF in ST, became a platton/super sub rest of career with line of 265/360/425 ~.............

Automatically, no, but you an do it manually. For testing (I'll claim) I created a perfect player. I basically started him at SS, sim to next week, stuck him as my top starter, simmed the day, then stuck him back as a SS. He got about 25 starts on the season and most of the rest in the field (I think he did sit out occasionally being tired) and ended up with about 40 WAR Combined on the season
