Help!

My Miami Marlins are close enough in the race that I want to buy. It's 2015 quick start, and I have two offers on the table. Tyler Kolek is in both deals, and my scout doesn't like him. Oakland seems to covet him more than Cincy.

Reds get Dan Haren, Tyler Kolek
Marlins get Mike Leake 3.27 ERA
We get rid of Dan Haren, and Mike Leake might be easier to resign than Kazmir.

A's get Tyler Kolek
Marlins get Scott Kazmir 3.48 ERA
We get a lefty in the rotation, which we don't have, but we keep Haren and his $10,000,000.

I'm a big fan of Leake in real life, so that's the deal I'd make. How is Haren doing for you? That would be a big factor, as well.

In my experience having a lefty in the rotation is not as important as having a shut down lefty or two in the bull pen come playoff time.

I'd take the Mike Leake deal. He's quite a bit younger than Kazmir. But I don't think it's really a "Buy" move. I'm not sure Leake will be significantly better than Haren over a the course of a few months (assuming you're in June or July). But I thinks it's a great move overall. You get Haren off the books and solid mid rotation guy who is still fairly young. If you can sign Leake it'll be a much better deal in the long term.

Tyler Kolek ended up being a Cy Young winner and fan favorite in my league. I eventually traded for him but in 2015 he's still green. If you're making a run you want to add not give up a major league starter. I think Kazmir depending on how much time he has left on his contract. I would take Kazmir for a half season but would hate to have him tied up in a 3 or 4 year deal.
