Most successful lowest round pick

I'm always curious to see low round guys who are successful in the game over time. OOTP has gotten much better with this in recent years.

Do you all have any stories (pics, preferably) of low-round guys who have been successful in your leagues. Don't have to be HOFers to quality, but the lower the rounds the better.

I just did a 100-round draft, but I don't do those every year, just every so often when talent gets way too low and I was intrigued by this notion of low round all-stars.

Anyone?

"Low round pick" is relative of course, depending on how many rounds you have. I have never seen a point in drafting 50 boys of whom 48 will be discarded along the way. I play with three levels of minors and my draft goes 12 rounds (started with 10 rounds even).

The kid below was taken in the 11th round, 293rd overall in a 360-strong draft pool. When we drafted him, he was a potential 10/8/10 with an array of useless pseudo-pitches and a 90mph fastball. He's come some way!

And he's come from one of the strangest draft classes I have botched up. Our first four picks that year all burned out in specatcular fashion in the minors, the 5th and 8th rounders lingered around for some extended backup time, but the main prize was won in the second-to-last round.

Quote:
1995 RACCOONS DRAFT CLASS

Supp. Round (#35) – LF Manuel Villa, 20, from Santo Domingo, Dom. Rep. – rated well above average in every offensive category but power (average), Villa also has great defense. His stock could go up if he can learn to play right field competently.
Round 2 (#77) – RF Cory Stanford, 18, from Coral Hills, MD – also above average, including power, however he has a nasty habit of hacking at everything, which will have to be beaten out of him
Round 3 (#101) – MR Bill Coles, 21, from Montreal, Canada – brutal changeup from the righty, but his fastball his dead straight
Round 4 (#125) – SP Julio Romero, 20, from Villalba, Puerto Rico – also a righty with a changeup, but not too much stuff overall
Round 5 (#149) – 1B/2B George Morris, 22, from Mesquite, TX – better D at first, but no home run power to speak of, also little speed and a weak arm
Round 6 (#173) – MR Tristan DeWinter, 18, from Moneka, IL – circle change to kill, but his fastball is really weak and he gives up lots of fly balls
Round 7 (#197) – INF Zach Muller, 18, from Montrose-Ghent, OH – more of a versatile infielder type with decent hitting, could once become a utility guy
Round 8 (#221) – OF Jason Kent, 21, from Sparks, NV – plays all positions in the outfield, but hacks like a maniac and still has no power
Round 9 (#245) – LF/RF Pacio Neira, 21, from Ciudad Guayana, Venezuela – here we enter the depths of no upsides
Round 10 (#269) – C Alan Scott, 23, from Mililani Town, HI – nice work behind the plate, but no hitting
Round 11 (#293) – MR Nick Brown, 17, from Halawa, HI – lefty with a slider
Round 12 (#317) – MR Ramiro Manuel, 18, from Meridian, ID – another righty with a changeup
The last month has been rough on him. But since my team is §$§%$, he's the only joy I currently have.

Brownie has a legit shot at 3,000 K however, and there aren't many guys in the ABL that have gotten there. One, actually.

Just had a round 14 pick (this league has 20 draft rounds) come runner up in Rookie of the Year.

40 games into his 4th season, Ernie Causby is looking like he'll be a pretty good player for a 19th round selection. He was drafted 577th overall in 2015.

San Fransisco actually released Causby about a year after he was drafted, and re-signed him to a minor league deal a few months later.

One of my favorite things to do in OOTP is to go through the draft logs in league history and find some late round gems that went on to become stars.

I generally almost never find late round picks that come out big, however. Whenever someone reaches 2,000 hits, or 200 wins, or 300 saves, or whatever, in my league, he pretty damn sure was a first rounder. Very few exceptions, like Brownie.
