My backup software of choice is winrar. I don't recall who wrote it but years ago someone posted a batch file that worked with winrar to backup an entire OOTP league save game folder only updating files that changed. This was in days previous to OOTP's in game backup ability. I have continued to use this with a very old version of winrar and will until that version of winrar will no longer run on my computer. I don't use OOTP's backup process only due to the old saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it". Like OOTP's backup after the initial backup all following backups take 2 minutes or less, dependent on how many files have changed or course.
A winrar file is created and named "ootpsave_XX.rar" with the XX being the version number of OOTP as my league moves ahead from version to version. So my current file is "ootpsave_16.rar" backups from last year are titles "ootpsave_15.rar" and so on back to the beginning.

My backup routine...

I play out all game so it is a fairly slow process so I backup ever 5 games or one time through the rotation.

~ every 10-20 games I copy my winrar file to a "safe" folder and change the name in that folder to include the game number and year. IE after backing up after game 80 I copy the file into the "safe" folder and rename the file there to "80-2016-ootpsave_16.rar".

Twice per year I put the file in the cloud. Mid season, the 80 game file and at seasons end just before moving to off-season. Also in the cloud I keep the "end of season" file for as many seasons as space allows and delete the oldest when I need more space. Free account so not huge amount of space but I can probably go back 3 years of so if I had to. Though at that point I don't know if I could but at least I'd have the option.

Small issue I only lose 5 games. Little bigger issue I may lose 20 games. Catastrophic issue (computer dies suddenly and without warning) and most I lose is a half season. Losing any games would suck but with all of the time I've invested I could recover and play on in any of these scenarios.
