Overall Ratings

Does it affect anything if you choose stars, or 20-80 values for player ratings? ---- What do you guys use, and why?

What models do you suggest for AI Eval? I'd like to put a little more emphasis on stats that the default settings.

Personally, I play "mostly stats". Meaning, I disable overall ratings (both current and potential). I DO leave current ratings enabled, so that I can see what current ratings are for individual skills and pitches. I do NOT show potential ratings for those individual things.

The reason I play this way (as does Thunder, in a similar fashion - we are going to coin the term "mostly stats") is because I find that when I leave the overall/potential ratings visible, I tend to rely on them too heavily to make decisions, instead of actually trying to look at how the player is actually performing, or has performed historically.

Because of this, I put very little emphasis on ratings in the player evaluation. I use 10 / 40 / 30 / 20.

I leave overall/potential on just for sorting purposes, just to make my life easier. If I'm a manager, I'll turn them off, and play similar to battists.
In GM-only (my main league) I use the 20-80 scale with 2-8 for individual and other ratings. If there ever was a day I could change overall/potential to 2-8, I would, but right now this is the most realistic.

For AI evaluation you'll get a lot of guys telling you to use 0/65/25/10 or 10/60/20/10. I personally prefer 40/40/10/10. That way, I feel AI is using an even mix, but still slightly skewed toward the stats.

No effect at all. Just different presentations. One could argue that 20-80 scale is finer (60 increments) than 10 half star increments. I recently went back to stars for that reason.

There are so many variations of AI eval out there. My advice is to play a few seasons and decide how good or bad the AI is at evaluating FA and prospects. My focus is on FA and it generally causes me to change AI evaluation every 2-4 seasons. I've got leagues with 30-30-30-10 and others with 20-60-10-5.

Yup, I've turned them off. BOOM! Whole new world.

Is it Mostly Stats or Stats Mostly?

If memory serves, the default fictional league settings are 30/50/15/5.

They've always seemed fine to me (I play almost exclusively fictional).
