Skin-related "Black Box" issue, still.

Okay, clearly I have no idea how to resolve this, as it involves importing skin files and I never do that. I'm still getting the "black box" around league leading player statistics, as discussed for the last patch or two.

I didn't throw away my old "skin.bin" files, as I couldn't find any. Supposedly, they're in a "data" folder, but I'm on a Mac and I don't see any such animal.

So I went to Add-ons Central and imported the "skin_files_ootp_16.tar" file to [my computer]/Users/[me]/Library/Application Support/Out of the Park Developments/OOTP Baseball 16/addons/downloads, as you're apparently supposed to do. Then I double-clicked on the .tar file, and it created a "skins" folder in that same folder, with "ootp 16" inside of it, and all the little goodies that make up the skin inside of that.

So, to recap, the path to the "ootp 16" skin folder is [computer]/users/[me]/Library/Application Support/Out of the Park Developments/OOTP Baseball 16/addons/downloads/skins/ootp 16/. Is this correct?

As per previous discussion, I did all this while running my game, then quit and restarted. Still had black boxes.

So I went to the "settings" panel (in the "File" menu) and the top line is current skin and it said "ootp 16", but I changed to ootp 16 classic and the skin changed. But still black boxes. Then I changed to ootp 16 dark. Still black boxes. Then I quit and restarted. Still black boxes.

And yes, I'm patched all the way up to the current (#7) patch. What the fudge is causing this, I haven't a clue.

Help. Please?

You need to find your "skin.bin" file and delete it. (For each skin)

OOTP will then rebuild them.

I am not a Mac person, so I am unable to help you with its location.

As far as I can tell, there is no such animal. I searched my computer for "skin.bin" and got zippo. There are a few on the auxiliary hard drive where I keep the older versions, but they are clearly in the folders for those older versions and have nothing to do with OOTP 16 (or 15, for that matter) which is entirely on my main computer.

Again, I just ran the game out of the box, and never imported any skins at all, until the "black box" issue showed up. So there should be no problem with a pre-existing "skin.bin" file, as I don't have those.

Thanks for replying, though.

For a mac, go to applications through the finder and right click on the ootp 16 app. Then select "show package contents"...from there you can open the data folder and then the skins folder. Inside there is a folder for each type of skin and each will have the skin.bin file.

Well, good gravy! I had no idea you could do that "Show package contents" thing to find folders hidden inside the app. Holy facepalm, Batman! Skins.bin file found, and tossed.

Problem still not solved, though. Not even after (yet another) restart. Should I move the skins files I downloaded into the "data" folder in the app? Or do I need t download again?

Thanks in advance.

I believe each downloaded skin file should be placed in that data folder. However, the way I did mine I somehow do not have the black boxes, nor do I have the red highlighted league leaders...I have YELLOW highlighted league leaders! I have no idea how this happened but I wouldn't trade my yellow highlights for anything. It looks really good to me!

Continuing the ordeal, er, "attempt":

10. Moved previously downloaded "ootp 16" skin folder into newly-revealed "data" folder. No effect.

11. Discarded that "ootp 16" folder, and attempted to download the skin file again. Game told me I had downloaded 2276 files (or whatever) into my "data" folder, and even showed them there; however when I checked the folder independently, there was no "ootp 16" folder present. Quit and restarted, still no change.

12. Tried the download from Add-ons Central again; this time I got an "error: source file not found" message, so I downloaded via browser instead, then moved that .tar file to the "skins" folder in the "data" folder.

This, of course, still didn't work or this message would be more like "thanks, finally!" instead of this extended bitch-fest.

Any more ideas? Frustration levels are about to hit the red line. (I'm dealing with another issue where I'm equally incompetent, so the old self-esteem is shrinking like ice cubes on the griddle at this point…)

ETA: to be precise, the error message (which I just got AGAIN) reads "ADDONS_DIALOG::install_file - could not find source file." (Third time I've seen that, now.)

All about some useless information, supposed to fire my imagination…

Soooo…I checked the other skins ("Classic" and "Dark"), found that they had .bin files still hanging around, threw those away also, and then tried to change skins.

This crashed the game…but when I restarted, I had the red highlight text instead of black box. (On "ootp 16", anyhow. As I don't even like the look of the other skins, I doubt I'll even bother checking.)

I'm almost sure this is NOT how you're supposed to fix the issue, but…

Peace.
