ChiSox fans: Salivate!

In my last league, the St. Louis Cardinals dominated. In this one, it is all South Side of Chicago. (I am piloting the New York Highlanders.)

There's even something for Cubs fans here, but they won only because "Circus" McLean ("He's a real comedian" - except when you face him at the plate) hurt his elbow in his FINAL start of the regular season.

Now, the White Sox won the AL by seven games . . . after you lost the World Series without him, would you be looking to fire the manager for sending McLean out there for his otherwise meaningless 29th victory?

Probably not, since he is considered to be a LEGENDARY manager. He better watch his rear end, though; he's off to a bad start this season and I just beefed up my starting rotation by trading some prospects and draft choices.

I am looking to unseat this guy.

Bonehead Merkle is legendary, too.

In 1905, though, I don't think that the concept of skipping meaningless starts at the end of the season had yet been formulated.

That's interesting. Not that OOTPB would know the difference - that's asking a bit too much - but you're saying that a manager in 1905 would not have sat a guy down to save him for the World Series? It wasn't the last game of the season, but it was McLean's last start of the regular season.

I'm thinking about something though. I know its not OOTPB 16, but this is two leagues now, created and played in this version, in which one team rather unnaturally dominated the early going (and it was not MY TEAM ). I wonder if it's something I'm doing in the setup?

My last league, the St. Louis Cardinals won the NL pennant, like, 10 seasons out of 15 - something like that - and a fair share of those 10 World Series. Now, in this current league, it's been only five seasons but the Chicago White Sox have won EVERY AL pennant so far (due in large measure to that moose of a man, McLean).

Strange.

The World Series wasn't such a big deal back then, and a team might well have only three decent starters, and top flight players were injured less often (perhaps because the generally lower quality of competition gave them leeway to take it easy more often).

But some true baseball historian probably has data on this question.

You can be legendary for . . . being a TERRIBLE general manager!!!

But, I am sure that is not the case with you.

It used to be that it was rather easy to dominate this game, once you knew how to play it (and you knew a bit about baseball, of course). Not so anymore so, yes, it is indeed a good feeling to win.

And to take it away from another team that's been stuffing it down your throat for five years.

So, that is why I beg your indulgence for my sharing my good feeling here. I would have done so "a year ago" but that World Series loss to the Cubs was really bitter. The way we lost - like deer in headlights.

Experienced and determined, we came back and did it right in 1907.

A lot of people don't like things like this. I love to see two dynasties battling for a decade or more. I've never had two teams in the same city but if I did I would definitely root for this to happen.
