Name help

OK, I'm needing some help with names in a fictional league.

I'm setting up a small fictional league, starting with 1950 MLB historical, erasing league history and changing player names to fictional. The problem I have is that when I select Randomize Player Names in the League Functions, I get a ton of Hispanic names. Although I would prefer to start with all caucasian, I'd be OK with some Hispanic (say, 5-10%), but I'm getting like 30% or more (might even be more than 40%). I have gone into World Nation Editor and zeroed out every ethnicity except U.S. Modern. I have Quest Dogs name lists installed. Can anyone give me hints on how to get names to randomize without so many Hispanic (or other foreign)?

Changing the name files won't help if what you want to do is change the percentage of Hispanic names. The game automatically defaults to modern-day percentages, which don't work with historical games. There are two ways to change that. You can go into the world_default.xml file and edit the percentages yourself. That will be a permanent fix, but it will affect every league you create thereafter and is not a simple task.

The second way is to edit the name percentages in the game itself.

1. If you're not in commissioner mode, go into it (Manager tab - manager settings - control & auto-play settings).

2. Under the game tab, choose "explore world." That brings up a list of nations. Since your league is set in the US, select The United States.

3. That should bring you to the nation profile. The tab on the far right is the nation editor. Choose that tab and you'll find a list of all the language IDs that the game uses when creating US-born players. The default values are 2500 for the modern US nameset (0), 420 for the Hispanic nameset (1), and 2 for just about every other nameset. You can enter values for each nameset - enter zero is you don't want to use one. The numbers don't have to add up to anything in particular - the relative values are what is important.

If you want fewer Hispanic players from Latin America, you need to change the player origin percentages in the players menu (game tab - game settings - league settings - players).

If you are still struggling, consider sending a message to QuestDog. He is extremely knowledgeable about this area of the game.

Thanks for the answers, but I had already tied both of those things. I have been using Quest Dogs list and I had gone to nation editor and zeroed out everything except US (Modern). Neither has made a difference.

I will try to check with Quest Dog. I don't want to get into anything too technical in the files and such because I'm not literate enough in computers to mess with that stuff.

Question: is your league really underway already? Or could you start over? Because I have a feeling the cleanest way to handle this will be with a fresh start.

If you are literate enough to get your whole league file to me I might be able to take a look at it and see what I can figure out.

Set the league to only generate and allow US-born players. I have a fictional set up like this and it gives me the results you're looking for.

Where do you find that setting and choice?

By Jove, that did it! I thought that was just for the new players generated as FAs and rookies as game progressed, not necessarily for just randomizing names.

Thanks Man!
