Not sure about this really. Yes in some cases... but not in all. You should be able to (for example) sign up a player getting rid of their arbitration years to a decent contract. It is good for the player and good for the team. However in OOTP I have never been able to get a player to sign a contract like happens in the MLB.

That's because Marcus has a little bit of Scott Boras in him!

I hear you, I have at times been able to sign players pre arb years, but they keep tweaking the AI.

I do it all the time, and for stars too. Once a player enters their contract year, it's rare that they won't test the market.

I am a believer in the market.

so the answer should always be "what they have the leverage to negotiate"

If the supply\demand puts them at that price and someone is willing to pay - then that is what they are worth. Could be 5 bucks and hour or 100 million a year.

That's crazy! I made trades instead and got pitchers making about $5,000,000/season.
Latos asked for a ton in 2016 free agency in my league also. 2015 he had a decent season on a bad Miami team. Milwaukee took the bait and signed him to a 7 year 170,800,000 contract. Hes 1-8 with a 4.50 era in 11 games for them so far

lol no way would I pay him that much. Actually there is only one player I would give 30 mil/year to and that is Mike Trout.
