Help Naming 2 Teams
I need some help/input on naming 2 teams in my fictional rival-to-the-MLB league.
It's 1995 and the American Baseball League is born out of the 1994 MLB strike and the frustration it caused....a group of very rich men decide to take action and form a new league to directly challenge the MLB....they secure TV and radio broadcasting contracts and set out on a unprecedented promotional campaign for the league......anyway that's my mini backstory.....realistic enough to be ok in my mind, so it will have to do. So I need help in naming 2 teams, Columbus and Inland Empire (team based in Riverside) Right now I have them as: Columbus Explorers (obvious reference to Christopher) Inland Empire Metros (named bc the team is named for the metropolitan area of Riverside-San Bernadino-Ontario) Not sure if those are good nicknames or not so anyone with ideas please feel free to post them here. All input/help is greatly appreciated. |

I like the ones you have over even the traditional named Clippers and 66ers

Yeah I think the two names you have picked are excellent for those cities

Given the general opinion of Christopher Columbus in the 1990s, I don't think "Columbus Explorers" is a good name for a team.

I always like the name Columbus Clippers - the city is named after Christopher Columbus so its kind of like a double fit... he came to America on a Shooner/Clipper, whatever you'd like to use.
Kind of reminds of the NHL Buffao Sabres, the city is Buffalo, the logo is a Buffalo but the team is a sabre, like the weapon. I might have just made no sense lmao ![]()

I never, ever thought about tying a Columbus ballclub to Cristoforo Colombo which is embarrassing since I lived right by his house for a while this summer.
![]() San Bernardino County never struck me as very "Metro", I'd probably go with something else. Some random suggestions: Oilers Suns Quakes or Earthquakes I usually make the team from Riverside "Quakes" and use the Rancho Cucamonga logos. |
