Cannot start under Windows 10 for any reason.
Well, I followed the advice from the sticky. Relicensed the game, no go..always get stuck at the startup of the game. I changed the security settings as well...no go. I cleanly wiped my machine and did a clean install, still hangs on startup of the game.
Please help... |

I went back to Windows 7
I found that any program that required an external launcher that had to connect to the internet was unable to launch in Windows 10. I found this out because I was unable to play Borderland 2 and my GF was unable to play FF 14. However, when I did a Google search I was unable to find many people with my issue so I don't think it is a Windows issue. But I have a feeling that for some users the new Windows is not able to use launchers that have to validate online. I do not know for sure, but I think when OOTP tries to validate the license online that Windows is preventing it. Sorry, I have no idea how to help you. I spent several hours trying to fix the issues I was having and eventually gave up. Also it appears that from my Google searches that this is not a common issue. |

No disrespect meant to you whatever, but why people feel the need to rush to get a new OS is beyond me. Especially with Microsoft's OS which historically has a 50/50% chance of being crappy.
Now W10 appears to be the good version after the less than popular W8. Still, why provoke the gods of I.T. by upgrading for some dumb doodads when things like the issue you describe are likely to occur? An OS is an OS, after all, and if your programs are running fine on the old OS, isn't that the whole point? I tell you, they are going to have to pry my W7 out of my cold, dead laptop. Or something. ![]() My problem? My luck? My laptop will last until Windows 11, the bad version coming up, has been released and is mandated on all new equipment. ![]()

This is one of those issues I don't understand. I upgraded to Win10 and I haven't had any problems at all. I play both this game, as well as many on steam, including Borderlands 2, with no issues. I know that some people are having problems, I just don't know what could be causing it. My experience with Win10 has been great, everything has been running better.

My wife accidentally installed 10 the other day, and OOTP has been running fine for me. I took it through custom setup and didn't go with many of the defaults, so maybe that is the issue?

10 is going to a PITA for corporate America if this happens frequently like it did for me:
15 identical machines, bought same time, from same place. All were completely wiped and then had the same exact disk image applied to them. 6 of them fail on the same 3 apps that require/use the above mentioned external launch to validate license yet work fine with 2 other apps that do the same. .... The other 9 PC's work fine on all apps. ... Rewiped the bad 6 again, reimaged and now 3 of them work fine............go figure

Not that W10 is bad; it's actually good, I hear. But it's not fair to OOTPD and other software makers to be responsible for every time Microsoft has an urge to make more billions by releasing a new OS that is promptly made mandatory on new computers. ["Gee, Bruce, you're stupid. Everybody knows W10 is a free upgrade." True. But I've read that W10 "phones home" a lot, collecting your data for resale, and stuff like Minesweeper and Solitaire are now available only by paid subscription.] So, for Markus to publish a how-to for running OOTPB on Windows 10 is nice, but no guarantee that OOTPB is going to run flawlessly on W10. Like a lot of I.T. issues, results are going to be inconsistent in that some users will be fine and others are going to have to wait for OOTPB 17 for a version that will be designed for W10. So, my brothers, don't rush to adopt Windows 10 if you are like me and you treasure OOTPB much more than you do the latest nonsense propagated by Microsoft. Especially if the fools expect to be paid for Minesweeper and Solitaire month after month after month.

After more digging it does appear that this is a somewhat common issue. It appears that W 10 is changing permissions on some folders and not allowing even administrators to launch apps that require online validation. But there is really no rhyme or reason for it. I try again after the new year to install 10 and see how it goes. Now I know what the issues will potentially be so I can at least be on the lookout for them. |

No idea, but she's not the best with computers.
