Trade Question

I had an of who was POY in AAA, coming up on his free agent year, and no room for him (my starting of - MVP, AS, and .300, 20 hr...my subs 2 young guys with 80 potential). So I decided to trade him (settings average-neutral). I wanted a young guy, 20-22, but all I got offered were guys on 40 man rosters, which I don't want. I tried it on team settings of rebuild, neutral, and build a dynasty, no change. Then I offered him to the team with the worst of, and asked for a low-level rp. The pitchers potential was 25, my guy is 67. No deal. I was frustrated so went commissioner and forced the deal. They not only immediately put him on the 40, they put him on the active roster, started him in rf, and batted him 5th!

So, my question is, why did the ai reject the trade, when they obviously could use him more than a class a reliever?

Also, you can set the ai trading preference to "heavily favor prospects". Is there any way to set the player trading preference? I frequently try to trade quality guys from my 40 for ml'ers today open roster space, but rarely get offered anything but guys already on ml rosters. Is there a way for me to tell teams I prefer prospects?

Are you using the shop around feature? If so, you need to get to the nitty-gritty and go right to the team. Also, I have found that some teams just do not want your player. I sometimes try the make it work, you have to play around with the AI at times, maybe send them some dead weight that they thing has value or some players that have just a minor league contract.

I could understand that if they hadn't taken the guy and made him a full time player hitting in the heart of their line-up. Clearly they liked him, needed him. Why wouldn't they take him for a lower prospect they had no intention of brining up? No financial impact, both on ml contracts. Simply makes no sense.

Logic in trades is sometimes off. Maybe there scout does not see the same thing that you do in that player. It might make sense to you, but not to the team. Sometimes some players are worth more then they seem.

Yes, logic sometimes goes out the window. I recently tried to trade a player and was informed that the team I was trading with didn't want overpriced veterans. Then when I clicked on the "make it work" bar they asked for the same "overpriced veteran."

1. The AI values those 40-man roster spaces too. The AI does not like to trade for a player when it forces a waiver move.

2. The trade AI and lineup AI are not in alignment. The lineup AI liked the player once you forced him onto the roster.
