2023: 2 relievers, 2 Cy Young's
This happens a little too much for my liking (relievers winning the CY), so I may decide to manually vote going forward. But I thought this was pretty neat and wanted to share. Bailey is one of the more dominant closers I've seen, and has actually won back to back Cy Young's. Chai was a bit more of a surprise. An international free agent from Taiwan who signed a 1 year deal with the Cubs in the off-season..he managed to win the Cy Young, Reliever of the Year, and Rookie of the Year awards. He was also named an All-Star reserve after finishing 4th in voting for all National League relievers.
Have you guys seen this before? |

I have seen it often, even pre OOTP 16 in my CBF league. I always manually vote for awards in my EBL vs MLB league which the CBF is in but I always ask the AI 1st then make changes as I see fit. I gave it to a CL in the EBL AL last season because of his dominance. AI chose a rookie SP with 16-7 3.41 record.
Bailey is as dominant as i have seen. The guy below is my leagues most dominant CL. http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ml#post3854379

It does seem like the algorithm for selecting Cy Young winners needs to be tweaked. It should be very rare for closers to win the award -- not impossible, but they better have an overpowering season that clearly overshadows the elite league starters in order to win. That both NL and AL Cy Young winners in the same season would *both* be closers should be nearly impossible.
Posting a 2.4 or 2.1 WAR, while impressive, are not numbers that would automatically put a pitcher in the Cy Young running by any stretch. Did the starters all just have unspectacular seasons? |

WAR for top 5 starters:
1961 - from 8.4 down to 7.2 1962 - from 7.2 - 5.7 1966 - from 8.5 - 6.0 1967 - from 8.2 - 6.4 I know WAR doesn't tell all, but those starters all had award winning type numbers. |
