Question Regarding Questionable Available Job

I just finished my current season (2019) as the GM of the Cubs. I have an Outstanding rep as the GM even though it kind of suffered after this bad season (77-85).

I went to look at the available jobs just for the hell of it, to see if there was something great that I might want to look at closer. There was, but it made no sense. The Oakland A's were looking for a GM. They have just completed back-to-back World Series championships, and the third in five years. They have a GM, Billy Beane, who is signed until 2023 and has a rep of Legendary. He is also in his late 50s, so retirement seems unlikely.

Why would this job be available?

Are you in Commish Mode? All jobs are available in Commish Mode, otherwise i have no answer.

No, I don't play in commissioner mode.

I looked later to see if the AI replaced him, and he still had his job into the season.

Seems very strange and unlikely they would want to replace him under those circumstances. I even looked at their offer and it was for 4 years at 1.2M. His contract is 1.3M, so it's not even a penny-pinching measure.

It has happened in sports that successful personnel are pushed out the door in instances like Jimmy Johnson in Dallas.
