What can I tell you? I look at Amalfitano, I look at other guys, I look at his batting stance; my brain started to play tricks. I have made too many bad calls of the obvious to say for sure this late in the game. I appreciate the confirmation.

To Merkle and friends:

I will miss this give and take (you give, me take) on all of these IDs. At the end of the week, I will post the final (still small) group of questionable IDs. If all goes to plan, we will hopefully ride off into the sunset like Cleavon Little and Gene Wilder in Blazing Saddles.

Technically, this should be in the minor league thread...

But a pleasant surprise to see Michael Jordan in the Topps Vault (just released). He and Upper Deck were in a virtually exclusive agreement during his baseball sojourn. But before reporting to the Birmingham Barons for his lone season of baseball, he was in spring camp with the White Sox, making him fair game for the Topps photographers. And here he is.
(note all the tape on his no-doubt-blistered hands)

Gaylen Pitts 1974

Not a lot out there of this Oakland utility man

Alvin Davis 1984

Pretty good Mariners' first baseman, signed by the Angels in 1992 to replace Wally Joyner. Since he washed out of Anaheim after 40 games, not too much of him in California garb.

Juan Pizarro 1957 (in 1973)

How about this?

Well-travelled lefty Juan Pizarro in his penultimate stop, with the 1973 Astros? Almost as good as something from his farewell brief return to the Pirates in 1974 (anybody ever seen him in Bucs' double knits?)

By my count, the Vault has released a couple dozen images or more for three straight days. Is it too much to hope for that the dam is about to break? I mean, I hope I'm around 10 years from now to see the latest release, but I don't know what kind of shape I'll be in to appreciate it!

And two more Braves catchers! Biff Pocoroba and Mike Heath! Maybe one day white whale Donald Young (first round pick, 1975) will emerge from the muck.

Gaylen Pitts - What's going on in the background?

In the image posted earlier by Merkle, could that be Jesus Alou in the background, and is it possible he's flippin' the bird to the photographer?

That's Alou all right - but the "finger" is either the right field foul pole, or Jesus's middle digit was about three feet long.

This is Mike Heath to you?

Lodged alphabetically between Tony Kubek, Ron Kittle, and Alvin Davis on one side and Skip Pitlock and Mickey Pless, Juan Pizarro, and Ken Plesha on the other?

And he posed in two different batting helmets during Topps' lone visit to the Braves camp in 1991?

(BTW there is nothing unusual with Topps posting large numbers of negatives on their storage server. They've done 60 in a day before. They aren't "releasing" them, they're enabling Topps Vault to sell them. The more, the better. There is no "dam" to break).

This is not Mike Heath.

I think it is Dave Plumb, career minor leaguer for the Braves (Dave Plumb Register Statistics & History | Baseball-Reference.com)

One last chance to be insulted

Well, yeah, he looked like Mike Heath to me, especially in the OTHER photo.

But it's all OK guys, I am out of the Topps Vault ID business with this one last image. It was ID'd as Robert Ellis, who didn't play for the Rangers until 2003, and this guy (Palmeiro? I give up) is wearing the 2001 patch. But the uniform number throws me.

Consider this my last request, so to speak.

Alou, foul poles and obscene gestures

Not sure what you're seeing - looks perfectly appropriate in size and scale to be Jesus having some fun with the camera in the proud tradition of Old Hoss Radbourn, Billy Martin and, to a far less subtle degree, Billy Ripken.

Is there a photo of Lou Clinton as a Cleveland Indian (1965)? How about Camilo Pascual (1971)?

You didn't believe me when I said this on Baseball-Birthdays, rico? I even cited the uniform year and points of resemblance.

Man, your team loses a World Series and not only do you have to listen to Joe Buckface try to ennoble Hosmer's "daring" base running, but nobody trusts your IDs any more. *pouts*

(Mostly kidding here. Mostly.)

Follow up request - Perzanowski

Hey all,

I just realized that my '78 Project is still missing a color image of Stan Perzanowski as a Twin.

Any chance one has surfaced? Thanks in advance!

1978 Perzanowski

If you find one please let me know - I've been looking for one of Stan for a long time now for my own 1978 project. If you want send me a private message with the names you still need and maybe I can help.
