Byron McLaughlin 1977 (in 1983)
And this from his last stint could be spring training '83 or '84
For more recent poses, ask the FBI ;-) |

Randy McGilberry 1977
An even harder-to-find Royals' reliever of 1977 and 1978. If there's interest I can post an ok portrait of him that I took in 1978 for general use.

As if they know where he is! Changing the subject, what is on Jesse Jefferson's glove? Tommy?? Last edited by Buccos; 12-08-2015 at 04:32 PM. |

Joey McLaughlin 1977
This is fascinating because the Jays/Braves/Rangers reliever of the late '70s/early '80s never pitched for the Phillies in the majors or minors - was evidently with them only in spring training 1985.

McGilberry
Merkle - Yes! If you have a McGilberry from 1978, it would be great to see!

I recall all three of the era - Bo, Joey, and Byron, as "McLofflin" but this is anecdotal at best.

With that overwhelming response (thank you, Dewey) here is McGilberry from the middle of July, 1978. I took it, use it as you will.

That's exactly how it was pronounced by Dave Niehaus.

Ladies and Gentlemen! TOM McMILLAN 1977!
Another Great White Whale, that had slipped between the cracks somewhere in the vast maw of the Topps archives. These were NOT in the New York archive files.
An actual Mariner image of one of the most photo-shopped players of the 20th Century, Thomas Erwin McMillan: Last edited by Merkle923; 12-09-2015 at 11:52 AM. |

Hank Schenz - 1951 NY Giants
A nice picture of the journeyman catcher from the SABR e-book "The Team That Time Won't Forget - 1951 New York Giants.

His position was irrelevant. The Giants obtained him because he was the best sign-stealer in baseball and they were about to activate the binoculars-and-buzzers system which won them the 1951 pennant.
PS - Schenz went to the Giants on June 30. Between that date and July 14th he appeared six times as a pinch-runner. In the remaining two-and-a-half months of the season he appeared in exactly two games, both as a pinch-runner - and both on the road. Last edited by Merkle923; 12-09-2015 at 08:16 PM. Reason: Added PS |
