Worst Pitching Change Ever :)

I just saw the most bizarre pitching change I have ever seen.

Roger Mason pitched to Michael Hunter with John Godwin on 1st base. During the at-bat Godwin stole 2nd but then Mason got Hunter to pop out.

Pitching Change - The Yankees brought in Rod Scurry to face Robin Yount.

The Yankees intentionally walk Yount with 1st open.

Pitching Change - The Yankees brought in Bob Apodaca to face Jim Dwyer.

Wait a minute... so they brought in Scurry just so he could intentionally walk somebody?

Pretty sure Sparky Anderson actually did that once...

It's happened in real life, per this Play Index search - admittedly, I can't search for the "next batter is a PH" scenario, which probably makes up the majority of cases.

Did the Yankees counter after the intentional walk by bringing Dwyer in as a pinch hitter?

Nope.

(And yes, THAT would make sense... but nope.)

just an aside, but as a player how much would that suck.

you get up, you go to work, you put on you uniform, you warm-up, you go out to the bullpen, finally get your call and they bring you in the intentionally walk one guy and then they take you out. you go to the clubhouse and think about how you should have become a dentist or something.

of course it is better then "real" work, but as a competitor that would really suck.
