This place (and people) is simply incredible!!!!!! Again, thank-you.
Another thing you should know is that you should probably avoid bringing all the famous Negro Leaguers (I believe there are 23 [?] HoFers, but they were great ballplayers) in at once as it might imbalance your league with too much talent. A normal league will have players of all talent levels. Changing that could affect statistical output of your league and if that's important to you, it could bother you. If you don't care about this, and you just want them all in there, have at it.

I use an online random number generator (set from 58 to 29691, which covers the lines that the players appear on in the Spritze database) to select who comes in via the Spritze database in order to keep it random as my league is a random debut historical league. If I get a player that played in MLB, I keep looking until I get a Negro Leaguer, an *** player, a KBO player, a PCL player i.e. a non-MLB player. They're all in there. There are about 11,000+ players in there who were not MLBers. It does mean unfortunately (for me) that guys like Satchel Paige can only come in via the default database, and that he won't be a rookie until he's 41 because that's when he debuted in MLB, but Josh Gibson, Oscar Charleston and all the rest that played exclusively in the Negro Leagues will come in for me at 18. I haven't had a Negro Leaguer come into my current random debut historical league yet, but I can't wait to see one because Spritze has done a great job with them (I've seen them in other leagues I've played).

i've created a very crude (and typo filled) data base from a variety of sources (books i own, on line sites etc) and the aprrox. year the players started in Negro leagues. So i wouldn't be adding all at once, but thanks for the heads up.

i actually did tinker with the import thing this morning, got it to work for one player (finally!!), but going through my list and the one Spritze has, there are a lot of marginal Negro League players not on his list - so i'm not certain i'll use it at this point. Then again, i'm not certain i won't either ..... The minor leaguers that will come with 17 are most likely going to be interesting enough, if i sprinkle in the Negro Leaguers as free agents.

Well see .... anyway - again thanks for the tutorial - it was amazingly helpful- and i'm (as everyone) waiting impatiently for 17 to get rolled out.

Good for you to get a player imported, I still have not got it to work. I keep getting the message "historical player imported failed". I keep trying to enter charlos00 and the year 1915.
And yes there has been a lot of foul language.
I am going to keep trying eventually I will figure out want I am doing wrong!

Are you 100% sure you're using the Spritze database? The default database will not recognize charlos00 because he's not in there. The Spritze database will not recognize charlos01 because that's not his ID number. That would be his ID number had he played in MLB, but alas as we know, he did not.

Try taking the instructions from the top again, including the first three to get the database embedded within the default database, and then make sure you're inside the Spritze database, and import him. Take a deep breath...You'll get there...Keep asking questions.

I want to play the 1967 Minor Leagues(along with a large fictional league) but not the 1967 Major League. Can I put the Major League on hold for a year and keep the minors going? What would happen to all the minor league players if I deleted the Major Leagues from that season?

Ok trying from the top again should I down load the database and unzip it again?

I just googled the 1967 Pacific Coast League Schedule and someone did have it. Looks like it came from a Spokane,Washington newspaper from that time period.

That's step 1. It's downloaded right? Now extract it to your Out of the Park Developments folder. Then, drag and drop it into your OOTP Baseball 16 folder, and drag and drop it into your stats folder. Now it should be embedded in your stats folder. Then go back and follow steps 4 through 12. I'm convinced there's something in there that you've missed and once you get it, you'll never look back again.

Did you have the game open when you installed Spritze? You need to make sure the game is closed while you're installing it, then open it again afterwards and it should be in there. Then go to either the draft pool page or the free agent pool page after going into commish and follow the instructions.

Still no luck. But now I have an excel spreadsheet and I can see charlos00 in the excel sheet but it is on line 3728, don't know if that makes any difference?
Still getting the message of the day, I think he must be in the data base because the spread sheet came the "master file". Should I maybe try someone else?

He's on 3769 in mine, but that's not important at the moment. It's probably an indication that you don't have the absolute latest Spritze database (Spritze added a few players to it sometime in December, 2015), but it shouldn't be preventing you from being able to import Oscar Charleston from the database you do have. What is important is the charlos00. That means he's in there and he should import if you've followed all the steps correctly. My best guess is that you missed a small step somewhere along the way from steps 4 to 12, and that you'll find that by re-tracing your steps. What is important right now is to get the process right. Once you get the process right, update to the latest Spritze database via his thread in OOTP Baseball 16 Mods where you probably stumbled across it in the first place, and then you'll never look back. I know your patience is probably wearing thin. Take a break, try something else, or keep going at it if you can bear it. OOTP can be a very frustrating game, but it's well worth it once you get it.

Here's the post that links to the latest Spritze database in the thread I was talking about above. The important thing is to get the process of importing down with the database you have...Then get the latest and greatest version of the database.

How do I know you can get this figured out? Because I stumbled and fumbled my way to it. I am no database or computer genius guy, and I got there eventually. Now I hope I can show you and others how to enjoy both the default database and the Spritze database as much as I do.

Does it matter than I am trying to import into a fictional league? Taking a break now, 8 hrs with the same message is just too much! But now I have a spreadsheet so not a total loss if I can get it to eventually work....

It might. I'm not sure. I was playing a random debut historical with a historical setup. I've never done fictional. I do know that you can use historical players in a fictional setup because I've seen others do it, so I'm not sure it should make a difference. Whenever you get around to it again, try setting up a historical game using the game creation wizard, so you don't waste too much time on it, and see if you can import Mr. Charleston into that one. Then we'll have a better handle (potentially) on what the problem is.

Just set up a fictional league, and was able to import Mr. Charleston. Somewhere in your process something went awry. Probably just a little thing, but little things can become big things when you're dealing with stupid computers.

when i first did it, i got a failed message as well. But i discovered the player actually started playing the after the year i had typed in. (Not certain it should have made a difference but something wasn't right.) So i picked another player, that had started the year before the date of my current game ... and when i entered his data, it went right through. (neither were Oscar though. i picked players that had been in the PLC for only a year or so - so i hoped they'd not be in the games master database - and they weren't.)

i may have typed something wrong or missed a step with the first guy, but it does work because the 2nd guy slid right into my free agent pool. Thanks again.

i play a semi-historical .... started off historical but right now it's 50% "fictional" players (as Negro League and a few internationals from my scouting director have been added over the 30 years of my game situation).

Thanks for all your time and trouble. I will try again tomorrow with a different player from my new snazzy spreadsheet.
