After 17 comes out will there stop being patches to 16?

Because I had to update and lost my leauge history again, its annoying. Will there be any of these pesky patches after 17 is out?

No. They'll be working on 17 at that point.

#1 Patches in general are GOOD, because they fix bugs. Especially shortly after the release of a game, the game might have bugs that cause great problems. unfixed, the game woiuld be much less enjoyable.

#2 Noone forces you to update and get the new patches. if you prefer, you do NOT have to update.

Ill give some clarification: I had to update the game for some reason and absent minded i accepted, and my save wouldn't load (stuck at 10% initialization) so after i Did the auto save fix it deletes history even with a backup so i was wondering if patches/updates would continue to come out since 17 is around the corner.

You handled those responses well with an explanation of your concern. Good for you. And while I don't speak for OOTPD, in my opinion, we've seen the last of additional support, in the form of patches that is, of v16.

is that a steam thing? i've never lost data from an update. i have seen the stuck at 10% initialization before.

Whatever you are experiencing after an update can be avoided by moving the league's save directory somewhere else, temporarily. then, move it back.

10%... i've gotten around this a couple times before and also trashed a league due to it, but not 100% sure anymore how i did it. so, make a backup of the entire league directory before doing anything...

-- try loading it before going to bed. turn off power saving features like HD turning off or screen savers. turn off your monitor and check it in the morning.

this definitely worked at least one time in memory.

-- when loading froze before a patch fix, the workaround was to load a different league successfully, then while that league is loaded try loading the league having troubles.

-- run a disk defragmenter on that drive or to save time on that saved league directory. i run it once a month and have thousands of fragmented ootp files. on a slower computer/hd this can be a big deal (if you have a SSD, ignore this... never defragment an ssd... completely useless and actually can be harmful if done often and consistently throughout the ssd's life)

this may help it load and process information faster, regardless.

-- you can fiddle with files in the directory. you may lose data to previous save point....

if you look in the .lg folder...

try moving the contents of the "auto-save" directory to the main league directory - click yes to move and replace all duplicates. (make sure time stamps are different on the files... use the older ones.

try that vice versa, too.... move main .lg dir files to auto-save....

i'm pretty sure i got this to work on a frozen league before - involving moving files or replacing with some older ones... lost some info but did get the league back up and running.

i certainly do not! ... LoL

in reply multiple responses:

i love how a guy just asks a simple question and he gets an argument on semantics and a couple incredulous replies. he even had to state his reasons twice - which in context isn't even necessary to know for an answer.

BTW OP:

beside just making a backup before an update...

you can keep that league history by making use of import/export and making sure things like teamID and playerID all match up between the 2 leagues. making simple use of a spreadsheet can make this as simple as cut and paste.

if the data can be exported and imported, it can be transferred. moving stuff between two leagues takes a little more than just clicking import, unfortunately. relative to league history, i don't know what is imported/exported so you'll have to look into it to see if it is possible from there.

if you save any of those older patch leagues, and they are the same leauge still, you may be able to re-import that lost history.

Thanks, I'll try that tomorrow
