Battery Drain; MacBook
Today during lunch within a 40 minute period the battery life on my MacBook Air went from around 55% to 31% within that time period. The only program running was OOTP, using 3D, and I actually played the game maybe 3 minutes during the time. The rest was just idle. The battery app listed OOTP as the only program using a significant amount of energy.
24% battery in 40 minutes with most being idle seems a bit high. Not sure its just 3D or the game itself. I can turn 3D off and see how that goes and report back but I wanted to make this known. |

I checked the activity monitor and while running 3D and just letting the game run it shows the energy impact score just all the way to 150-170 while showing the average energy impact as 110.45 over the last 8 hours. For OOTP. Nothing else in the last 8 hours is above 5.
Switching out of 3D mode and it shows the impact score drop down to around 6. I know 3D is going to use a bit more battery life this just makes it unplayable. |

I'll ask Jorin if we can do something here, but 3D graphics are always very tough on the battery, not sure if we can do anything against this.

It shouldn't take that much extra power though. I had a movie playing, downloading a program in Safari and a news program syncing in the background and combined they didn't use even a fraction of what OOTP was using.
Its a nice feature but if using 24% battery in 40 minutes while the game is simply on idle in the background is the 'norm' then I won't be using this feature. |
