Sample size is too small. Even if you go to the Steam page, which also has good reviews, it only has 134 of them. Compare that to another indie game, Kerbal Space Program, which has 29,389. Patting yourself on the back and saying job well done is a bit premature. I for one am not impressed. OOTP is a really good game, I like it. But, there is plenty of room for improvement.

Sample size? Who cares. The fact is OOTP is a niche program, we all know that, and while we might all want more fans of the game, I think we should be comfortable in knowing that OOTP will never have as much of a mass appeal as some other games. Sure, there's plenty of room for improvement or additions, not many would argue otherwise, but it's still great as it is and there's no reason not to celebrate that. No, you celebrate it and then the next day you get back to work and ask yourself, "okay, so what do we work on next?".

Well, my question is: there are clearly more than seven reviews of OOOtP (which are all positive by the way) so why won't Metacritic use them? I understand them not using some of the "baseball magazine type reviews"...but as far as straight up gaming reviews, they should be using them.

It's inevitable now that companies will be sending you buyout offers. Keep a level head

Not as much as you think.
Markus and his team have been working on this game and its later versions since 1999.
Name me another baseball management simulation that has MLB and MLBPA licensing.
Give credit to where its due.
There is no other game like OOTP!

They work their asses off, trying to improve the game. You know right now they're probably working on a new patch to tighten up some stuff. I also love the fact that they don't get to say 2 months after release and say "that's it for this game, any issues that now come up too bad, we'll try and fix it for the next game".

Congratulations Markus and company!!

Now if you could only live up to the rating Metacritic gave OOTP 2007*...

*Kidding, of course!

Congratulations to everyone involved in making this game as good as it is. Happy to see you getting some recognition beyond the loyal user base, of which I am happy to be a member

I've worked for 43 years. There is always room for improvement and I do improve. Nobody is resting on their laurels here.

It is a great game. It has been for years, but it is crashing way too often in 3d when you play games out.

There are literally two pages worth of complaints in the bugs forum on this. Including a long post involving screen captures of the latest crash on one guy's system. It appears to have something to do with the internet part of the game. Every time any other program updates the whole game locks up. But who knows? Look. This is the best game on the internet, no doubt. But there are people out there who are reading all of these posts whose games aren't working. They are paying customers, too. I know everything will be straightened out in updates. The new comers don't, and 3d was designed to attract new comers. You can see why they are a little short tempered?

I was overjoyed with OOTP3!

It was the most remarkable thing I had ever imagined... in the 1950s I dreamed about a game that would keep track of the league stats and league standings... and lo and behold in 2002 I found it!

Markus and the OOTP team have done a truly remarkable job... actually an UN-BE-LEAV-ABLE JOB!

I would have been happy just to have OOTP3... extrapolate that feeling a million-fold and that's how I feel today.

Way to go Markus!

Thank you for this bit of sanity.
This forum has grown to become way too fanboyish.

OOTP is the #3 or maybe #2 best sports sim.
It is a fantastic game. But declaring it the best ever is a nice marketing ploy but I think stands in the way of progress which has stagnated in the last few versions.

You're overreacting. Anyone working in business today should know what "Puffery" is and that it is ubiquitous. As for the "fanboy" slam I'm glad so many fanboys work on this game. Contrary to your sneer many do the"grunt work" required to identify issues in the game which the developers can fix.
