Microsloth can decide which OS to support and not to, you're correct. Where they go astray is...the do NOT have the right to force an OS upgrade on you. Electronic trespass and malicious destruction of intellectual property are both valid potential claims...sorry to be long winded, but I loathe Pyongyang on the Duwamish.
"Electronic Trespass Various state courts have begun to allow trespass to chattel actions when there has been no physical contact in the traditional sense but contact in the form of electronic signals. In order to prevail on a claim for trespass based on accessing a computer system, the plaintiff must establish: (1) defendant intentionally and without authorization interfered with plaintiff's possessory interest in the computer system; and (2) defendant's unauthorized use proximately resulted in damage to plaintiff. See e.g. Thrifty-Tel, Inc. v. Bezenek, 46 Cal. App. 4th 1559 (1996) (holding that an action for trespass to chattels could be maintained against defendants accused of making numerous long distance phone calls in a matter of hours because the electronic signals generated by the calls constituted sufficient tangible contact)."—Yeah, I know it's Wikipedia.

I'm no fan of huge corporations and I customized my options right at installation regarding sending info and privacy etc. However, I stand to be corrected, but I'm pretty sure it was optional to upgrade to Windows 10.

Completely optional. And foolish not to.

FYI, if you REALLY want to avoid Windows 10, here is how to do it:

Personally, I like the Windows 10 Start Menu a lot (although I disabled Cortana). The Live Tiles are very nice for things like email and weather. |

Yes, and the people who really have a need for it - the most normal of whom are the Bitcoin and Silk Road crowd - are even creepier. There are some Really Bad Things on the Dark Web.

I got 10 as soon as I could. I have never had a problem. My wife has never gotten 10 on any of her computers and still runs 7. No problems for her either. O love 10 personally. Now if I had $3,000 for a toy I would get the holographic thing they sent me an offer for today. It looks cool as can be. lol

Can you get someone to change Scott's title then? Since Scott's is a brand new account with only the 1 post I was just about to PM Eugene to ask him if Scott asked to see his serial number or give over control of his computer. It'd be good for people to know that if Scott offers to help them that they can probably trust him since he works for OOTP.
EDIT: Welcome aboard, Scott. Sorry I found you suspicious. Hopefully you understand.

while you had win7, you had to be more selective of your updates that get installed on your computer... still shady that you have to be aware of such a thing, don't get me wrong.
but, had you read through them each time, you would have avoided the one(s) that start the upgrade process and all the annoying reminders to do so. doing some google searches should give you the "KB######" so you can uninstall it, if you have accidentally put it on your computer. only auto-update the recommended ones... even those i'd look through the non-security labeled updates... if it doesn't apply to your computer, don't download and install it - espeically the "Optional" updates... the optional ones are mostly junk and if they are important.. they are important to NOT download as opposed to being important to download. Also, get in a habit of not downloading updates right when they are pushed to your computer... give it a week and read comments on internet... mostly just look for "KB#### broke my computer!" type stuff.
