It's All My Default

For the past month I've been experimenting with different seasons, tweaking the AI settings, player development settings, modifiers, etc. I've came to the conclusion that Markus, Orcin and others are right: stick with the defaults. The only thing that I'm going to change is the trade settings to "very hard" and "highly favor prospects".

Great thread title.

I acknowledge my reputation as village idiot here, and maybe it's a case of low standards (secretly, that's not true), but in 10 years of playing this game, I have never felt the need to alter, for either current or historical MLB, the following: player creation modifiers, league totals, statistical modifiers, or financials.

OOTPD has put much time and effort into developing these settings. Why re-invent the wheel?

I agree. And IMHO the OOTP team has made the game even better this year, the best it's ever been as far as I'm concerned.

Of course, we must acknowledge two groups of game-players for whom tweaking is primal:
  • Historical re-enacters who wish to fine tune results even more finely, in their estimation, than OOTPD has been able to achieve, and
  • "What if?" players who want to see more powerful hitters or pitchers, better fielding, whatever, than actually happened in real life.
These people I salute.

I am not one of them, however.
