Quickstart players import
Don't know if this has been asked, sorry if so.
Is there a way to to import the players of a Quickstart game, such as Nippon League Greats, into a Historical game? i looked but couldn't find a data base for the Nippon players, nor an import tool for something along those lines. My instinct is it's probably not feasible without knowing something major about how to edit the database, but thought i'd ask. an example what i'm trying to do is place someone such as Victor Starfin into 1936 free agency in a "historical" game format. thanks.

..... other than the tried and true - finding the players in Quickstart game, then locating their stats in Baseball reference, then copying stats onto paper and then entering them manually as "fictional" free agents..... well, that works in a pinch.

You can try doing it this way:
http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...rs-league.html I'm not sure if you want their stats to import as well. I don't think they would with this method. |

Should be able to save it as a template then add template to teh new league. No clue which stats will show up especially if the start year or current year is different.

created the temple - once i add it, what does it do to my current league, as it's an established league. Don't want to ruin 10 years of manually adding Negro League players. does it go in as a new league, feeder or what? i guess i could save my current game with a new name, and then just see what happens? thanks for the tip though. gives me something to chew on and experiment with when i get a little time.

took notes on OBSL Commish idea, but when i tried The Game's template idea, it was easier and worked for my needs. Thanks to the both of you.
ran a test - created a new game, 1916 - historical. then brought in my template for Nippon greats ..... took a bit to figure out how they went together, but .... in commish mode of a team, i can go to the Nippon league and click on whichever player i am interested in and in the edit mode, i can put them as free agents .... or even on a ML team .... Wowzers, Batman! Hey, this is incredible. i'll not need it for a bit, as i am still in the deadball era, but when i get to 1936 (when the Nippon League data is available on Baseball Ref. - guess that's the year the league started) it'll be a massive help. THANK YOU very much people. Such a great community here.

now that i've tried this, more than a single season test, this is what i am discovering. The template addition league - evolves. i thought it might. So the Nippon players all enter my game in year 1, because it's a collection of greats and not designed to evolve. they remain in the Nippon league until i decide to bring them to the majors/minors.
what this forced me to do, is learn how to edit the stats files with export import function. i've tried to figure this out before, and it's eluded me. But i looked at the files closer this time, discovered the part of file that explains them - i didn't realize it was after the teams .... and i did an experiment or two, but i appears it can be done .... it'll be time consuming, but i can delete or edit the years stats (fields, hitting, pitching) the players have accumulated before they would actually enter my game (based on their real life introduction to baseball leagues) with the export/import tool. Then i merely need to change the age of the player with the editing tool on his profile. Then i can assign the player either to a major/minor league team, or let him become a free agent. This way, i get the players into my game around the years they would have in real life. i think it'll work out well. Again a huge thank you to The Game and OBSL Commish for pointing me in this direction. i never would have figured it out on my own!
