Montreal Expos in the present day?

Hello everyone, I just had a few quick questions. I want to use the Expos and bring them to glory, and I'm thinking about doing this multiple ways and idk if they are possible.

First, I was thinking about starting a historical game in about 2002 or 2003 and playing as the expos. Now, if I did this, would they automatically become the Nationals in 2005, no matter what? My goal is to win a championship in Montreal.

Last, I was wondering if there was a way to put the Expos into the 2016 season without having to do a historical sim. For example, if I wanted to put the players from the 2004 expos and have them replace the nats, could I do this? Would I have to create a fictional league to achieve this? Is there a way to do an expansion team with the Expos several years into the future of a standard game?

Thanks in advance

If you want the Washington Nationals to be the Montreal Expos, with the same players as the Nats have today, you can go into Game Settings --> League Settings --> League & Teams and simply change the name. Then you can go into the team's Team Settings and change the city, the stadium, all that stuff.

If you want to import the 2004 Expos and have them replace the 2016 Nats, then you'd go into Game Settings --> League Settings --> League & Teams, choose Edit league structure, and you can both delete the Nats, and add an historical team, following directions once you're there.

ok thank you, but is there a way to make it so the expos can be an expansion team in the future? (say, 2018)

also if I do a historical sim, will the team move to Washington in 05 regardless if I'm controlling them?

You have to turn off "Automatically expand league" in your League Settings under Historical. That will prevent the Expos from relocating to Washington, but it will also keep all other future movement from happening to (Astros to AL, etc.)

@wallewalls: Just a warning, if you do this then the future schedules will be screwed up because of the way team IDs work. I'll make a custom schedule if you want it.

In the 2017-18 offseason, you should be able to go to the league and teams controls and add a new team, after which you could have an expansion draft.

However, if you're asking that when you start in a certain year, say 2005, whether you can set up the game to automatically add a specific team in a specific future season (such as Montreal for the 2018 season), I'm pretty sure that's a no.

How are the schedules messed up?

When you want to add the Expos, go to League Settings - expand league. You will have to add another team or 3. Hit generate schedule when you are done or look in this thread for some good schedules.

You can keep the Expos in Montreal after 2004. Start with 2004 and unclick Automatically Evolve league under league wizard. and they wont move. Once you get past 2015, you should be able to turn it back on so the league will expand but you may want to keep it off and expand manually.
Also many people have made some cool Expos jerseys. Pwal has my fav.
