Do You Retire Players Who Died IRL In Your League?

Coming up on 1979. i have 2 active players who die in '79. Thurman Munson & John Lennon.
Do you kill off players in historical leagues and should i kill off Munson. i will retire Lennon after the '79 season.

No, because the great thing about OOTP is you get to see what might have happened. Besides, if you're doing a long sim, that's a lot of early deaths to account for.

Does OOTP do anything for dead players when it comes to recalc, etc?

I think there is an issue with the licence, the game could kill off a current player and that would be a no no in the MLBPA eyes. God forbid someone posted it to twitter and because it is on the internet, it must be true.

The Game: John Lennon died December 8th, 1980, so you can squeeze one more season out of him than you thought you could. Sweet huh?

Nope. I like to see what they could have done if they'd lived.

Ken Hubbs didn't do much...got picked in the expansion draft by the Padres, IIRC, and was out of baseball three seasons later. Lyman Bostock lasted until about 1985, had a pretty solid career. Not HOF, but at least Hall of Pretty Darned Good. Thurman Munson didn't make the HOF, but was close. Lasted until around '84, I think.

You should post a request in the facegen thread for a John Lennon facegen. Somebody asked for a Trump facegen and got it, so John Lennon should totally get a facegen

Yes, I play historical so I retire players and and have them retire when they did in real life. Otherwise, you're playing fictional IMO.

Unless I'm making sure all the players are on their actual teams and just doing sims to see how it turns out, I don't see any reason to. It's a different "timeline" so they are on different teams. Won't be in the same situations so no reason to think they would have died at the exact same time.

I had a sim back in OOTP13 where Doug Million, a real-life promising minor leaguer who had a fatal heart attack around 20, became a beast with 5,000 strikeouts. I wouldn't give that kind of situation up for the world.

I don't play a lot of historical with real-life guys, but if I did, I would probably pick a certain point in history, and then everything after that would be up to the game, including that.

I never retire anyone. Unlike in real life you'd know well in advance when someone like Munson died so you'd have another catcher ready anyway so that would be unrealistic too.
