Offseason AI Player Weights
During the offseason after, say, 1984 is completed: say it's February or March of 1985 now. Does "Current Year Stats Weight" still refer to 1984, "Previous Year" to 1983, and "2 Years Ago" to 1982? Or does "Current Year" mean 1985 (which hasn't happened yet) and is "Previous Year" now 1984?

if it's going by the same logic as when team histories are cataloged, it probably doesn't change until the preseason.
-- i delete league history on Jan 1 through the day before preseason and it will still show a line for that previous year's info - an empty line, but still a line. if they are sharing the same variable and qualification/logic (read that loosely, i am not communicating exactly what i am thinking very well), it might not change until the preseason begins. you can test this by looking at a player you know has a drastic change around that time... sim to each important date (offseason, new year, preseason) and double check their ratings at each point... based on when you see the ratings drastically change, you can tell when that year is being used in the calculation. oops i am probably referencing "re-calc" vs what you are talking about... same method, slightly adjusted can also figure out when ai eval out processes the next year into it's calculation too. Thanks to both of you -- NoOne's test method ought to help me figure this out. Although, do any of the developers know for sure?
My personal suggestion to the developers is that "Current Year" *ought* to mean "the most current year for which we have stats": thus 1984 should be "Current Year" and 1982 "2 Years Ago" until Opening Day of 1985. But meanwhile, yes: Lukasberger and NoOne are being helpful, but a definitive view of the actual programming would be nice. ![]() |

I've learned, by experimentation, that at least during the pure Offseason (through February), "Current Year Stats Weight" does mean the most recent season of statistics: if it's February 1985, you can indeed include 1984, 1983, and 1982 in your weighting. Good: that's realistic.
(I'm sure of this because the players who had breakout 1984s found their ratings dive from 4 stars to 2-or-fewer when I eliminated "Current Year" from the AI settings.) |
